Took a while for this to open up. Even when it did, it is still pretty tired unfortunately. Stored in ideal conditions but it's just closed up for whatever reason. Drinkable, balanced, but not a lot going on.

Very good. In a carafe for 30 minutes and it was fantastic. This wine could continue to improve for 2-3 years. I am glad that I have 2 more from this vintage.

Remarkably elegant for a Zinfandel. How this got through British customs without a declaration of alcohol strength anywhere on the labels heaven knows!! Glad it did. Ripe, juicy red berries mellowed with age and with hints of spice and integrated dusty tannins. Respectable length. Excellent but close to the end of its plateau in my view. Drink over the next year or so.

Seems to run the range of medium (from - to +) over the course of the two hours we had it open; certainly benefits from a serving temp <67F. Alcohol, and tannins are resolved, the acidity is avg. I like that this isn't jammy, or raisiny - it's a balanced wine with decent purity, and moderate length. Good, though anything north of $20 seems wrong. But, it's Napa, and, from a pricing perspective, most of that is wrong, too (relative to the values across the rest of the winegrowing world). Not something I would seek out, but as it was a good/avg food wine with our bbq ribs, it worked out just fine. It's my experience that Zin and BBQ are OK at best - many, many other varieties/wines that pair better; lots of variables, obviously, so a general statement. Drink now thru 2022.

(Grgich Hills Zinfandel) Very dark red violet color; reduction, tar, dark chocolate, roasted black fruit nose; savory, dark chocolate, tar, roasted black fruit palate with good balancing acidity; medium-plus finish (15% alcohol; long natural cork)
