Heavy, a bit disjointed, lacks delineation and a bit flat on the finish. High alcohol. Can the heat of Napa deliver high quality Syrah? Big improvement day two. Hold or long decant.

Opened and decanted. Left for about 60 minutes before tasting.
Deep opaque purple-red with no signs of bricking. Seems fairly viscous. Highly dense and concentrated appearance.
Plummy spice on nose. Pepper. Allspice. Touch of tomato. Beefiness.
Wine is sound. Pepper really comes out on palate. As does the spice and the beef / bbq flavors. Kind of a short dull finish though.
Overall - we like this but aren’t nuts about it. We might just not be big Syrah fans. Sad, but at least we can narrow down the universe of exciting wines!

Love this! Dark, brooding but glug glug.

Napa Trip 2017; 7/23/2017-7/24/2017 (Calistoga, CA): Much darker color and more typical Syrah profile. Black and blue fruit with a nice tannic backbone.
