Popped and poured at cellar temp. Quite pale red color with just a hint of bricking on the rim. Cool earth, sandalwood and black pepper on a very savory nose. Also quite savory on the palate with salted cranberry, some meaty raspberry - the fruit there, but somewhat hidden behind the savory notes. Still good intensity and acidity suggests it will go for some time, just not sure it has the oomph of some of the other Rhys vineyards from 2014.

Open for about 6 hours but never decanted - but should have been, as the later glasses unclenched and showed the wine's true character. You can think of this wine as a medium between everything with its balanced and business-casual earth tones, or as kinda mid (for a Rhys). I appreciate having less phenolic density, but at the moment there's a flat (stemmy?) top note. I've had better experiences with Home in the past, and wish I'd sat on this bottle another few years.

Home Vineyard continues to be one of my least favorite wines they make and this bottle does nothing to change that. Nothing bad, but nothing that stands out. Dark fruits, forest floor, spice, cherry and whole clusters on the nose and palate. Medium body, the tannins have softened. It just lacks the complexity of their better wines.

This was delicate and delicious but not as complex or nuanced as I expected. Undeniably well-made but doesn't seem to have the makings of a classic.
