Opened three hours prior to the start of consumption. The nose was dark berries and mocha. The palate was dark berry, plums, tobacco, tree bark and mocha. The finish was long. Served partly with our main course of grilled filet mignon with the remainder of the bottle went with our cheese course later in the evening.

Dang I miss tasting this. Showing extremely well in aromas and taste. Chocolatey and spicy explosions on the palate. Adding toasty cedar, roasted berries and dark plums. Beautiful notes of worn leather and licorice come to the dance floor as well. Generous acidity and juicy tannins on a long finish. This ‘14 might be my favorite Tempest!

Pop and pour into a decanter. In the glass, somewhere between dark magenta and blood red at the rim, shading immediately to impenetrable black at the core. On the nose, a blast of currants, followed by secondary notes of stone fruit and graphite. On the palate, ample enamel-staining blue fruit, with unfocused secondary notes of flint, oak, cassis, and plums leading to a long finish with moderated, but persistent, tannins. This is getting dangerously close to fruit bomb territory for my liking, but at least for now, staying on the right side of that line. Give it another five years to see if the tannins maintained balance.
