The wine is dark crimson in the glass with an aromatic and pretty nose of dark cherry and cassis.
On the palate we found the wine to be big, plush, and extracted. Tart cherry presents itself on entry accompanied by an almost harsh acidity. Some cassis and spice introduces itself through the mid-palate and finish with a bit of minerality.
We bought this wine last year after a visit to Siduri’s tasting room, so we must have liked it, right? I can’t say we were enamored with it tonight. It seemed tight and lacking in complexity, not worthy of the $45 price point. It did open up a bit, but we found this pinot sharing qualities that you’d typically find in an extracted Napa cab. Easy-drinking nonetheless and pleasant.

Using my new Zalto Burgundy glass for the first time. This glass really shows off the beautiful black cherry color (just short of opaque) and glossy, glassy-smooth appearance of this wine. Really nice legs, too. There is a whiff of cherry, but mostly the nose is about candle wax, spice and terroir. The fruit (and it is lovely fruit) comes out in the mouth, unfolding as it crosses the palate. Lacking a bit of complexity, but has good power, grip and a luscious, lip-smacking quality. True to the Siduri house style, this all about class, restraint, and avoiding overripeness. The acid is very nicely done to provide just the right structure. Lovely finish on this. 5-11-17-8: 91/100.

Beautiful see-through black-ruby color; quite brilliant and very leggy. Nose shows piquant cherry and rose fruit, candle wax. Ethereal. Delicate. Dusty cherry fruit on the palate. Just the least bit tight, this could use a year or two in bottle to show best. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.
