What's this? Siduri with a.... CORK closure? Yep, straight out of the catacombs of the Pyramid of Pinot, on today's episode of This Old Hooch is a 2005 Siduri Keefer-mufuggin-ranch! Cork put up a little fight but once liberated, this old goat shows some nice Burgundian character. The years have softened the fruit but the intensity remains only with earthy characteristics taking a central part. Sous Bois, wet leaves, mushroom, violets, sounds more like Granny's compost pile than wine but make no mistake, she's still singing that beautiful Pinot song. Little funk reduction at first but it soon blew off. Finish is a long, heady, earthy note with ultra fine tannins. More please!

Figured it would be over the hill but NO! Dark purple color with edges of light brown. Heavy jam on the nose but light and delicate strawberry fruit on the palate.

Very smoky, earthy nose. Very much up-front fruit on the tip of the tongue—sort of a viscous cherry thing. Fruit diminishes as it passes over the tongue, lots of earthiness, but then I get a hint of oxidation. Some bitterness in the back of the throat.

Nicely aged. Some mushroom notes accenting nice black cherry fruit with some creamy oak. Reasonably fresh tasting and went very well with scallops in earthy cream sauce
