Brought this to Cucina in New Hope - a fabulous corkage friendly restaurant. In my cellar from release, first bottle from this vintage. Decanted and rebottled 2 hours prior to going the restaurant
Dark garnet color, mild thinning at the edge. Nose showing dark fruits, anise, vanilla. Rich palate showing blackberry, cassis, cocoa, floral notes. Smooth texture, tannins softened and sweet. Full body, long finish
A rich and expressive wine that has settled in nicely. The 2012s in my cellar have been ready to go early (maybe less longevity?) Either way this is in a great spot now. Showed much better after the decant, was mildly closed when first opened.

2 plus hour decant before pairing with BBQ boneless leg of lamb.
This was my second bottle of The Bard from this vintage and it was not as complex and layered as I recall that original sampling. See my original tasting notes for more details.
This is still a wonderful Cab that's balanced and exhibits a very smooth and long finish. If you have bottles in your cellar DO NOT sit on this wine, as I think it's already reached peak.

Three hour decant, per a recent tasting note. Good, but a bit underwhelming. Blackberry, blueberry and some vanilla (thankfully less than the 2014 I had a year ago). Utterly smooth and seamless. Laid back would be a polite description; punchless would be the rude description. It has excellent fruit weight and depth, fully integrated oak and tannin... and lacks any character. Flawless, but not impressive. Everyone at the table liked it, but it didn't hold anyone's attention.

Wow. This is an entry level Realm that tastes like the top of the line. Huge cab with dried currant and blackberry fruit that is basically dessert.
