I prefer Zin’s to be big not elegant. Light to medium bodied, not drinking like a Zin. It’s like the winemaker was making Pinot. Just, not a style I like.

Drinking exceptionally well tonight! Fantastic zin! I’ve tried every Martinelli zin and liked most, but tonight the Vellutini had a combination of balance and complexity that is unmatched. Black fruits, thyme and other dried herbs melt together seamlessly. The 17% is hardly noticeable. Don’t laugh but it reminded me of a sweeter, richer version of the 2010 Dominus although with less structure. I have one more bottle of each and might just open them side-by-side!

Was surprised at how light the staining on the cork was when I opened the bottle. Was surprised at how light and translucent the wine was in the glass. A wimpy zin from Martinelli? 17.3% ABV. What is going on here? Just drink the wine, stupid! Wow. Powerful and elegant. A strong, feminine take on a zin. Black fruit and spice abound in a well-balanced wine.

Upon initial pour had lots of blackberry, leather, and subtle graphite notes, but as the glass opened up so did the sweetness with raspberry, blueberry brown sugar and molasses. Silky tannins and long finish. Well balanced considering the ABV reported on the bottle. Excellent wine!

This wine is at its peak, silky tannins, very smooth. I see no benefit to further aging.
Served at 64 degrees, the 17.3% ABV did not show.
