Lunch at Song of India (Song of India): A nice wine - this has come around quite well indeed. It smelt very Burg-like, with lush aromas of mushrooms, minerally earth and perfumy flowers littered over a core of dark cherries and a hint of toasted spice. A lovely bouquet that could almost be a Volnay. The palate was very pretty too, but in a rather less Burgundian fashion. Not that this was clearly new-world or modern though, just that it was sweeter and riper than you would expect a Burgundy to be, with ripe red fruits - strawberries and cherries - at the attack, all very bright and clear. Given the nice amount of acidity on this, the sweetness actually worked to make the wine a lovely pairing with a range of North Indian tandoori dishes, especially with a well-prepared chicken dish. The midpalate was rather earthier than the attack led on - a bit tight and a bit of heat there, but there was still some elegance overall to the feel of the wine. Nice stuff. It finished with final kiss of spice that again drew it towards the Indian food. It would not have worked with the spicier stuff, say the curries we had in the second course, but with the meat rubbed in spices, good stuff. This wine is at a nice place now, but I think it will show even better given another 2-3 years.

Still drinking beautifully. Very feminine, soft, beautifully integrated red fruit, vanilla and spice. No notes but at dinner it was a total wow. Another great bottle from Freeman.

This was the best showing so far. Cooked strawberries, cherries, a little earth, a light touch of spice and well integrated oak made this a really enjoyable and delightful package. Tasty and well composed, with a minerally finish.

An Unexpected Good Day; 6/24/2010-6/25/2010 (Universal and Asia Grand): Medicinal floral notes, herbs, partially preserved fruits. Nicely aged. Still rich but restrained with underlying V8 engine power. Smoky cherries.
