Initial notes of iodine and leather with violets coming on with more coaxing. Disappointing on the palate with barely discernible fruits but firm grippy tannins. I think this is spent.

The 1993 vintage was not a good one for Bordeaux in general, and it is apparent from this Mouton. It has certainly passed its prime. But surprisingly, it still holds some notable characteristics of a Mouton. Smoky and earthy nose with a bit of a dry mop odor. Taste of faint chocolate and berries.

Have not tried it yet, but we bought this way back in 1995 when we were in Paris with our kids. This is an (in)famous vintage, because of the pencil drawing of an underage naked girl on the label. It was banned in the US, which is why we thought it might be something we’d like to keep in our cellar. Not sure if we will ever drink it, as it is a rarity.

12x Bordeaux 1983 vs 1993: All wines tasted single blind. Not decanted. As anticipated, the 1983 vintage prevailed in our comparative tasting, scoring 8 to 2 wins against the 1993 vintage, with two ties. The structured, classic ’83s exhibited greater depth and harmony compared to the ‘93s, which tended to be simpler, sometimes slightly green and dry, or at their best, fresh and light. However, in both vintages, aside from a few notable labels, many wines were evidently beyond their peak. The standout was, unsurprisingly, the Margaux (94pts). Tasting the some of the same ’83s a second time a few days later with decanting showed a marked improvement, highlighting the need of aeration.
TN: The nose is dark and dense, abundant with dark berries, setting a rich tone. However, the palate shifts, presenting herbal and mineral notes, but lacking substantial depth. There's an imbalance due to insufficient fruit presence. 89 pts, which is on par with the 1983.

K&L Grand Bordeaux Tasting: The nose on this wine is explosive and leaps out of the glass: graphite, cedar, mint, and cassis. A kaleidiscope of aromas. The palate is delicate, elegant and silky, hovering over the palate with notes of smoke and spice informing the restrained blue and purple fruit.
We had this blind, but I notice Mouton has this polished, almost glassy texture that seems to be a house signature; at the very least, I was able to identify it. Really loved this, even if it may be a slightly modern take on Bordeaux from what's considered a "meh" vintage.
