From glass. High, mature nose of rhubarb and "older-ladies' fruit perfume" (I'm sure that made sense to me at the time I was smelling this), some smokey notes. Palate: surprisingly fresh and clean. Browned red fruit, some caramel sweets, but long, savory, astringency dominant. Very nice, if not out of this world.

Color garnet with only a hint of oxidizing, slight rust tint, light-to-medium legs.Smells of various citrus, especially orange. Taste includes rose and soft herbs, unusually complex for a shiraz. Finish is soft and lingering, very slight pepper--not the hot aftertaste that is all too common-plus espresso and chocolate. This 1994 is still excellent--age has smoothed the rough edges without diminishing the distinct flavors. Drink it now and enjoy.

Dark garnet in the glass, nose is heady, plummy, woody bark, wet mossy forest floor, dark berries (black and mulberry). Taste is full, filling, clean acidity, bright, transparent, velvety tannins, not overwhelming with spices, some cracked pepper, faint 5-spice, smoke, cedar, tobacco, old leather suitcase, dried mandarin peel with a hint of dried honey dates. Mushroom roots, savoury, dark loamy earth, cool sweetish tea tannins, with cocoa powder emerging with time. Sustained, balanced finish. Complete, tall finesse and Elegant! Stunning on its own, but possibly even better when paired with a buttery wagyu steak, or even possibly bosciaola.

Still full-bodied with mellow tastes of spice and dark fruit, very pleasant.
