Paired against the Factor 2010, both double-decanted which is advisable. Ripe dark cherry fruit, cool mineral notes, a herbal dimension of eucalyptus and dry laurels. Dried meat, black olives. Sweet, intense and high-octane palate, but with subtle tannin. Maybe a lack in mid palate. The Descendent was more herbal, less spicy and generally came across not quite as complex. But both pale in comparison to the bombastic RunRig 2010 (which I need to revisit).

Full fledged jammy, dark berry fruit. Slightly spicy and herbal (tobacco), some leathery notes. Acidic, full bodied palate. Tangible tannins. A bit over-extracted, otherwise decent balance. Nicely aged and event mistaken as a Boardaux in the blind tasting. I'm a sucker for RunRig, but this quite decent too. 5-man average score was 94.4, excluding my 91 the range was 94-96.

I always find these types of wines difficult to judge - you appreciate their depth of flavour, density of fruit, even complexity in a tarry, chocolate way, but are they enjoyable? Drinkable? Adaptable to food? I found this a bit tough going.
It's smells big, feels big, tastes big - 15% big. Blackberry, plums, apricot, chocolate, tar, peppered steak, liquorice. It doesn't lack complexity by any means, but I'm not sure all those flavours and the density of the wine come together in an enjoyable package. I certainly found the viognier quite assertive. Lush, silky tannins and medium plus length.
Surely the ultimate test is whether you can get through the bottle and honestly a glass or two was enough. I'm sure others will certainly rate this higher.

Big and bold. Tar, licorice, plum, jam. Kept getting better as over a couple hours.

Dense blueberry and black berry flavours. The tannins are nicely integrated with hints of cinnamon and vanilla. Delicious.
