This was intended to be a wine for early drinking, not for aging, so it's not a huge surprise (although still a disappointment) to find that 22 years after the vintage there's not much left here. Cedar, sweet tobacco, and autumn leaves, and leather emerges with time in the glass, but no real complexity or richness remains. Still pleasant enough as a casual everyday or party wine but it doesn't repay attention. If you have any of this in your cellar, the sooner you finish it the better.

Enjoyed on the screen porch. Chunky, dense and deep, showing a nice spicy element with mature but not overly done stewing. Minerals, plums, blacks on a thick heavy body that isn't too flabby. Much better than the last bottle by memory.

Opened and paired with vegetable lasagna. Medium weight, medium garnet in the glass. Opens to reveal black cherry, plum, spice, a little funk and red Aussie rock dust, may be slightly corked. Fruit still holding on, but not overly flamboyant - rather shading to the sweet and sour side of cherry - acidic backbone holding this up. Day two +, nose is restrained, throws heavy sediment, gained weight and body and fruit, showing ripe plum, heavy black cherry too. A solid offering, not yet over the hill, still plenty of fruit.

This did not age well. Slightly bitter blackberry, and light funk.
