Big Cab Open (Eagle Brook CC): Double decanted off its sediment six hour before service. Inky dark color. Loads of chocolate and rich black fruit on the nose and palate. Medium tannins. Big but balanced with loads of fruit. Not a style I can drink often but is good in the style and had quite a few fans at the table tonight.

Finishing up the last third-plus of the bottle opened for yesterday’s tasting. Time has certainly helped, but this is still a big wine- it is a Lewis after all. Ripe black fruit and chocolate on the nose and palate, with chalky tannins and a long finish dominated by bitter dark chocolate qualities.

Friday Night Uptown Brown Bagger (R&D's): Blind. Deep color. opens with vanilla and blue fruit, it's a touch hot at times as well, and there's chocolate tones mixed in. Full-bodied, with red and black fruit and chocolate on the palate. Good length on the finish. Opens quite a bit in the glass and improves more than any others in the flight. Picks up a black raspberry element and shows better balance than earlier. Overall, quite large-scaled and youthful, this would have benefited from a lengthier decant. It had been double decanted about three hours before the flight was poured, and could have used five or six. 92-93 pts.

Fantastic. Still a massive wine with solid structure and huge fruit, and everything was nicely integrated. Silky smooth with fine tannin.
