  • Once again, I think Lewis Syrah is better balanced and in more harmony than the Cabernet. This is a big wine. It is dark deep purple in color. Full of black and blue fruits on the nose. There's blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, black plum along with blackcurrant leaf, black pepper, cedar, earth and forest floor. It is developing. On the palate it is dry with pronounced intensity, medium plus tannins and balancing medium acidity. The mouthfeel is sensual but assertive. You can feel the grip on your cheeks. The alcohol is high but feels medium and in check. It is utterly balanced for such a big wine. The finish is medium plus. This is drinking beautifully but I would bet it can age. It should age well for another five years. It should hold for a decade.

I had this against the La Chavaroche from Levet and they are two different animals. They share some primary notes but it's like comparing a Corvette and a Porsche. For a Burgundy drinker to rate this 94pts, it must be outstanding.

I am now certain, I like their Syrah better than their Cab.

  • Dr. Azul comments:
Had my last bottle of the ‘09 on Wednesday. A rich, full bodied and easy drinking wine. Full of fruit flavors. A real crowd pleaser and I thought probably better than the last few bottles I have several years ago. Not sure it can get much better. Hopefully some of the recent vintages will be as good as the ‘09. Have the ‘13 & ‘15, and if they are near as good ‘09 will consider them great buys. Although the Alec’s Blends may be good to drink early, would encourage to cellar for a while. They improve with some age.

  • Wonderful Syrah. A tremendous amount of sentiment, it took some time to get through a filter. Decanted for an hour. Continued to open up over the next hour. Not sure further aging will help.

  • 2 1/2 Hour Decant. Riedel Vitis Syrah wine glasses. Very Pimp Cool Riedel Glasses. Blueberry on the Nose. Nice Nose! Pretty Nose! Elegant Nose. Nice Color. Nice Start! Spicy & Smokey. Drank with Baby Back Ribs & Brisket. I did Potato Salad, Baked Beans & Corn on the Cob. I also did whole Jalapenos for the side action. Nice mid palate. Sneaky finish. I recommend a 3 Hour Decant before you even think about drinking. It takes time to open up. Pop & Pour is a Bad idea with this wine. 15.5 %alcohol. Very Fun Wine! Very Respectable. This Wine will change in your glass over time - Big Time! 125 Cases Produced. Saturday Night in the BigTown! 92 Points The OKC Kid

  • Another stunning Syrah from Lewis and really amazing how similar this is to the 2008. Smoky cassis and roasted plum on the nose, midpalate is mouth filling, rich and concentrated with huge amounts of black fruit. Finish sticks to the throat and lingers with a liqueur-like sappiness .

Consumed at at cellar temp: 60°-65° F. Friends don't let friends drink red wine at room temp!
