Apricot conserve in a glass (but much more complex and subtle). Deceptively low in alcohol. Lovely stuff! Note: A third of a (half) bottle left in the 'fridge was excellent after a week.

Just a decent wine at a reasonable price. Not as sickly as some sweet wines but I would struggle with more than a glass. Keep chilled and drink in small quantities. Good QPR for those wanting to venture into sweet wines

{375ml, screwcap, 8%} Despite the different varietal make-up (viognier & roussanne this time) compared to the 2011 vintage drunk last week, this was pretty much a carbon-copy on the palate. Massively sweet, syrupy in texture but with just enough acidity to balance it in the shorter term, it’s laden with botrytis, burnt caramel, toffee; it’s dark copper in colour and positively clings to the sides of the glass as you swirl it. Medium-long finish, doesn’t cloy too much, but feels rather like someone running the last steps of a tightrope walk before everything collapses. Exciting but dangerous. Drink up.

Saturday night drink at Davyd's place. Pop and poured. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, amber colour. Legs. Nose is cean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of botrytis honey, sweet blood oranges, marmalade, apricots. Developing. On the palate, sweet, medium acidity, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of apricots, blood oranges, caramel syrup, and toast. Good quality. Alas, acidity is lacking. But that is to be expected, with the naturally low acidity of Viognier and the lower acidity of a late harvested Roussanne. Could hold and develop over the next 3-4 years, but I am not sure about beyond.

Nose of pineapple, apricot, ripe mango and honey. Very weighty palate with intense sweetness and fruit. Sadly, little acid to balance and clean-up the finish. May be good on pancakes, but no more than a sip on its own. Too bad.
