Good wine from a weak vintage. Fruit is not as intense as premium vintages, but still exhibits the spice and structure you'd associate with Bowen Estate. Prominent eucalyptus, currant and a hint of smoke. Needs lengthy decanting to smooth out the tannins.

Damp, marsh and forest type nose, almost weedy. Dry and relatively light for the genre A phrase I normally despise, "claret style", is rather apt for this with a dryly tannic-finishing wine. Unusual as it may sound, this wine has a number of hallmark qualities of stereotypical cool climate Aussie reds, although it's less green on day 2, and a bit silkier as well.

Spectacular Syrah Tasting at Dino's (Dino's - Washington, DC): this was one of the lightest wines of the bunch. not saying light = bad, but this wine just didn't have the complexity i was looking for. its ruby colored with plums on the nose. pretty thin on the palate with tart cranberries and tangy sour cherry fruit. its medium bodied with moderate acid and the alcohol is restrained. however, the oak dominates the somewhat weak fruit.

Nice dark color. Not showing much age on the color. Nose was more oaky than I remembered. As the evening passed, some of the oak dissipated, but some it remained through the entire bottle. Still somewhat tannic. It was a relatively bold wine.

Developed red colour. Raspberry and pepper dominant. Cherry, smoke, blackcurrant. Med-bodied. Showing a fair amount of vanilla/American oak.
