  • Dark ruby in the glass. PnP. Nose is dense with plums, raisins, dates, and a hint of vanilla. Palate is amazing, with great acidity, some minerals, dense, fruit forward but elegant, with plums, blackberries, anise, a touch of tobacco even, medium+ tannins, and a long ending with warm spice and belle pepper notes to complement the oak.

Such a nice wine, this should improve further in the next 4-5 years. It feels in a good spot now, but I think more is to come. Excellent.

  • Wine Lunch (Rocknroller's (Kevin & Vicki's Place)): Very dark red/purple color. PNP, drank a glass over an hour. This has a mesmerizing nose that really carried the wine. The nose is brilliant with earth and leather first, then a wave of roasted and dried meats, a hint of menthol, great spices and oregano, blackberries, and a blackcherry under current. The palate is nice, but not at the level of the nose; dark fruits, mainly blackberry, black pepper, glycerin, scrorched earth, a touch of oak, blackberry liqueur, well concentrated. The nose is an easy 95pts, but the the palate comes in around 91 to maybe 92; but dang - I could smell this all day. My guess is this peaked a couple years ago and the fruit isn't quite where it was then.

  • Sill very deep color with lots of black and blue fruits in the nose and flavor. Blackberries, black cherries, and blueberries with licorice, chocolate and hints of floral, spice and herbaceousness. A rich, full bodied wine, well balanced, nice acidity and complexity, and a long smooth finish.

  • Part of a Syrah/Shiraz afternoon tasting. Two hour decant. Almost obsidian in hue. Pronounced nose of dried and stewed dark red and black fruits with all kinds of savoury elements, baking spice, eucalyptus, and mint. black- and boysenberry compote on the tongue. No perceptible heat from the 15.5% gauge. Really well-balanced and lithe. I'm impressed, CoL's in the past have been jammy sluggers but this was fine wine. Thanks, DV!
