  • Last bottle from a batch bought direct at the winery, aged nicely in the cellar since. PnP, drank over 2 hours with Valerie.

Consistent with prior notes: "Deep, inky purple color. Nose had some funk/barnyard when first opened, blew off in 20 minutes after we started drinking. Rich bouquet of blackberry, kirsch, spicecake. Palate showing plums, black cherry, cassis, bacon(?), spice and smoke...a lot going on here. The spice and smoke repeat through the mid palate. Concentrated and powerful wine, gets better in the glass over time. Full bodied, long and somewhat sappy finish (in a good way)...."

Picked up a bit more heat/alcohol on the nose with this bottle than last (from memory). The smoke and earth notes on the mid palate a bit more pronounced with this taking. Very nice wine in a good spot now. Good example of how the Martinelli Syrahs will age, this one still has a good arc ahead of it, but no reason to wait (IMO)

  • At home w burgers and salads, and pulled this for "no particular reason"...slow oxed for about 20 minutes.

Well made CA Syrah, some Martinelli Syrah's are to big for my tastes, this one has settled in with the cellar age. Not as complex as some other CA Syrahs...but nice nontheless. Still drinking well and somewhat young, should have a long arc ahead of it if wanting to hold. Decanting/air time benefits this wine if the venue allows...

  • Deep purple color with a bouquet and flavor of purple plums, but with no jammy notes and no black pepper. Somewhat subdued, with limited nuance, but good balance. Pleasant and easy to drink, but less than I had hoped for.

  • Deep purple color with a bouquet and flavor of plums, with hints of dark chocolate. Good balance and definition with a fairly long finish.
Very pleasant wine. With a bit more suave and layering, it would be a wow.
