Work tasting and dinner (Home): Mid to light garnet, fine velvet to silky in texture, a core of mellow fruit, church pew and incense with a smidge of orange peel too. Really lovely. Very fine sediment that makes the second half of the bottle too cloudy to be enjoyable. Amazingly, left upright in the fridge for two days and this has settled nicely without obvious deterioration. Lovely, fully mature but remarkably robust. ****

After a couple of duff bottles of this in the past few years, this one is back on the form it showed at Chris’s Medlar Ardanza & 904 lunch. Mid to light garnet, just a touch richer than the ‘69 alongside, a little fuller and more velvety with a core of mellow fruit, church pew and incense, and noticeably less lapsang. A smidge of orange peel too. Really lovely. As with the ‘69, at peak about 90mins after opening. Fine sediment in the last glass suggests this is one for standing up and drinking at home — a journey immediately before opening would have ruined it. ****1/2

Jaggerfest 2019 (Harwood Arms, London): Opened to replace a shot 73 Tondo, and guess what... A touch of cork and swimming pool. After a while the swimming pool cleans up to reveal a cleanly corked wine.

Drank with John R. OK given the age, bricky but still has flavour.
