The nice, mature nose has dark cherries and strong tea. On the palate amarena, cherry skin and chocolate-ish depht. Soft tannins and a nice acidity. Medium+ delicious aftertaste. A very good example of a Rosso di Montalcino from a quality producer - light in the style, but definitely better than many second class Brunellos.

1 1/2 hour decant then Vinituried into glass. Nose: Slightly dusty red fruits with smoke and herb hints. Palate: Soft styled with perfumy red fruits and a light finish. For $20 on sale not the best QPR but a pleasant enough wine that went well with pizza.

Decanted for 2 hrs. A bit tight but aromas of strawberries and cherries with earth and tar. Palate follows with nice acidity. Elegant but the tar element is really there in the midpalate. Nice finish. Tannins are definitely present but mostly on back end. Really young but very tasty. On day 2, gains more weight with more black fruits and plum rather than red fruits. Nicely done.

1/3/2013. 2009 Il Poggione Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Francheschi, Montalcino, 14 pabv.
Better quality cork than the aging potential of the wine, I'd say. Riedel Bordeaux glass.
Fine tears topping glass-coating viscosity.
Herbaceous baked cherry-stone tarts.
Simple and cool but lluscious sour cherry notes; fruit is sweet but with a nice bitterness. Grabs the mid-palate wilth squeaky tannins; welcome sour-cherry tartrates and well-balanced, soft tannins. Nicely gulpable, satisfying my urge for savory food (in this case, more mushroom agnoletto with homemade Italian tomato sauce..
89/100; a rich, satisfying red wine.
The last wine I had from this house was the 1978 Brunello; this wine is not dissimilar from that one, but much less expensive overall I'd imagine that the 2009 Brunello di Montalcion from this house must be astonishingly good..

Very nice nose, black fruits and some red berry hints. Ruby color. Nice tannins, well balanced with the fruit.
