2006 Southern Right Pinotage

I had a bottle a while ago directly out fo the shipping box, was not overtly impressed with the wine so had the batch sit for three months before trying it again. No change. The nose holds a lot of promise initially. Color is a beautiful purplely ruby red. With the mouth feel things suddenly let all that promise down. The only thing that came to mind on the finsih was a good mineral water. After corcking it and letting it sit for a day it was only slightly better. Generally, disappointing.

Took it straight out of the UPS box and drank it over two days. Nose was tight initially with the smell of a burnt match dominant - the smokiest Shiraz by far of any recent tries. The second day the nose had layers of fruit mingled in. The nose is clearly this wine's stongest trait. The palate and the finish not quite keeping up with the promise of the nose. Dark purple colour, and compared to some of the California Zins the alchohol in this wine was a non event. Overall the wine is very enjoyable and the tannins fine. Should round out nicely with more time.

Nice color, a bit lighter than typical Cab. Pleasant nose of currant, and spice. Not quite heavy bodied but still a significant mouth feel. The oak is very well integrated and nicely complements the other features of the wine. The wines weakest point is the finish, not as smooth as one would expect on the front end. Would probably not buy again at the price point, there is serious competition in this price range.
