Pulled Moose was joined yesterday by a fantastic Barolo Classico from Mauro Veglio, vintage 2015. I would say it is right in the window now, fine tannins with clear fruit, very good. Drink or hold.

2018 Bodegas Trus Ribera del Duero Punto Geodésico 100% Tempranillo
The vineyard locations for Bodegas Trus Geodésico are located at an altitude of between 800 – 900 m. Storage in 500 liter wooden tanks and concrete tanks. The height obviously contributes to a more elegant Tempranillo, the typical Tempranillo elements are there, a mix between sun-warmed blackberries and red cherries, fine-tuned acidity and clear and silky tannins. Here you can see that the vintage has had a few years to spare (current vintage 2020), the wine comes out immediately more accessible from the start. A stylish Tempranillo that really became a favorite around the table thanks to its great availability. Will be buying a few more of these to see how it develops over time.

2022 Barr-Eden Estate Shiraz Dreams of Gold Mengler's Hill 100% Shiraz
Barr-Eden has its estate right between the Barossa Valley and the Eden Valley, where the majority of their plantations are located in the Eden Valley at an altitude of about 500 m. Cultivation has taken place here for a very long time, but a collaboration between Joel Mattschoss and Pierre-Henri Morel (originally from the Northern Rhone) led to the start in 2014 and the first vintage from Barr-Estate Dreams of Gold came in 2018. This is a more elegant Shiraz, about 10% whole bunches are used in the fermentation. No new oak, only used French oak (3 – 4 years old). Lovely fruit, a mix between classic dark berries but also more red berries with nice acidity, there is a mouthfeel of a slightly darker Grenache. But it's the tannins that impress, tangible and likeable, backing up the fruit perfectly. The wine needs 1-2 hours in the decanter, due to its youth, the alcohol comes through at first but with a little time the wine feels integrated. Hold for at least two years.
