  • 2019 Vincent Pinot Noir Eola - Amity Hills

Served around 55 degrees; Vincent suggests his wines be served on the cooler side and I have found that to be true. Red fruit, a hint of funk and mushroom. A tiny bit hollow just as it hits the midpalate. This wine is more subtle than the 2019 Ribbon Ridge. I think it would have gained some weight on Day 2 but it didn't get that far. Good pairing with leftover chicken and air fryer carrots. Love the low ABV. Drink or hold.

  • 2019 Vincent Pinot Noir Ribbon Ridge

WLSCH's prior note is excellent, except that I found this wine to be open and ready for business. Perhaps this was due to bottle prep differences. I decanted it for 30 minutes and tasted on the cool side, around 53 degrees. As I've noted elsewhere, Vincent suggests his wines be served on the cooler side. Oh, and I also drank it out of a Grassl Liberte' stem.

The nose was terrific, full of cherry and red berries. Medium body on the palate, with crunchy red fruit and a touch of something darker (blackberry?). Bright acidity, nice and tart on the finish. I didn't contemplate tannins, so they must have been soft or I wasn't paying attention. Very good on Day 2. No discernable change, even though I felt it was just a touch better.

Overall, this was a really good wine. It has just a bit more oomph than the 2019 Eola-Amity Hills, but it would never be mistaken as brawny.

I'm giving it an extra point because it was a such a great buy at ~$25 on release. Drink now with a short decant or follow it through 2030.

  • 2012 Marco De Bartoli Passito di Pantelleria Bukkuram Padre della Vigna

Purchased four bottles at auction; this was the first bottle. Served around 55 degrees in little granny glasses.

On the nose and palate, there was apricot, peach in very light syrup, a hit of pineapple. Medium-plus mouthfeel without getting cloying. Was a nice after dinner sipper, but became elevated when tasted with homemade fig newtons.

This is not a fortified wine, so treat it as a still wine. Having said that, I did not notice a big change over the 4 days I tasted it.

Happy to have three more bottles. Drink now or hold.
