  • 2003 Château Duhart-Milon

Cabernet Sauvignon 73% and Merlot 27%, aged in oak (50% new), total acidity 3.14 g/l, 13% vol.

Decanted an hour before dinner and highly enjoyed with bred and a selection of French cheese. Starts like a very classic Pauillac, gets more power and fruit with additional air. On the nose dark berries, tobacco and with more air underwood and a suggestion of funky notes, on the palate it started fresh and dry with some edges, gets quite powerful and rounded up with more time in the glass, ends very long.

In a great spot now and with ages to go. Recommendation to decant for more than an hour at the current stage.

  • 2003 L'Étoile Banyuls Grand Cru Prestige

Grenache Noir 75%, Grenache Gris 15% and Garignan from old vies 10%, aged 10 years in old oak barrels (barrique and demi-muids), 16.5% vol.

PnP and enjoyed over 3 days. Nice nose with fig, walnut and dark berry fruit, on the palate good balance between sweetness, freshness and tannic structure, dense, intense and long. It was not ideal with sweet dishes but it was superb with blue cheese, 93+.

One of the best wines from this winery I have ever tasted and worth the attribute “Grand Cru” with the typical mix of dark fruit and oxidative notes, best when slightly cooled at about 10 to 12°C.

  • 2019 Caveau de Bacchus Trousseau Arbois Cuvée des Géologues Nonceau

Destemmed, fermented with indigenous yeast, long 4 weeks maceration for such a vintage, aged in neutral oak, 14% vol.

Tasted at the winery, short note: Classic, quite tannic for a Trousseau, good freshness and good structure for a bright future. A bit austere at current stage and needs food to be enjoyed, will be more enjoyable in some years, 91-93.

Very different to the Ruzard / Rosieres from the same vintage. Aviet understands it perfectly to treat the different Trousseau climats and vintages according to their potential, hard to beat him.

10/23/2021 6:39:00 PM - LOOKS familiar, but I can't place it: Your profile pic is of ___? [I'm thinking one of the Southern Rhone crus?]

7/5/2020 12:24:00 PM - Hi amateur62, first, and having enjoyed a nice Solutre blanc recently, I like your screen image. Have you been to the lovely natural history museum under that amazing rock? Anyway, I'm happy to discover your discerning wine notes. Also, your profile makes me recall happily: I attended middle school in Zurich many years ago -- and my wife and I love hiking in and above the Kandersteg valley, not too far from Bern. (Most recently this past September.) Oh, and now more back on topic: What would we do without cheese?! -- Jake
