5/31/2023 11:19:00 PM - I like the image of the Wendouree behind an iron gate; the Nordic lass who handles Wendouree sales seems to serve a similar role, though the iron gate probably has more sense of humour than she does. I didn't even bother trying the new $300 wines from Bekker's - I'd happily pay it for wine I love but something annoys me about wines with no real history and limited pedigree being hawked at those sorts of prices.

5/31/2023 11:02:00 PM - Dear LindsayM, welcome aboard the Crazy Train! Had a quick glance at your most recent notes - I had the Bekkers 2011 Shiraz in 2015 and 2016. From an awful year in most of SE Oz (in my books the worst since 1989 and perhaps 1974) it was a real pearler. They are lovely people and although I have some concerns about the oak treatment in their Syrah and Syrah-Grenache I keep buying their stuff because I like the people. How do you find their wines, generally? I lived in Hamilton, Vic 1998 -2000. It was a tough time for me personally and the drought, removal of the wool floor price, Pyramid and Triton collapses and Kennett retrenchments had devastated the region, but I loved the Western Districts and the coast from Portland through to about Apollo Bay. Wineries like Hochkirch were just getting started and there was Crawford River. Best of all was that it was easy distance to Coonawarra and to Great Western. From memory there was a very good wineshop, Lynch's (I think) at Warnambool. I was also very well treated by the people at the Royal Mail in Dunkeld, so it was a great time from a wine drinking perspective. Fight the good fight (in the wine drinking sense!)

6/27/2015 4:19:00 AM - We don't share much (any?) in the way of the names on the labels we regularly drink, but I really enjoy your notes (thoughtful, informative, etc.) and really dig where you live - color me envious :D
