6/21/2017 7:27:00 AM - Hi csimm1161. Had our tasting yesterday at both Outpost and Myriad/Carter. All I can say is Wow! Both were wonderful. The standout though was sitting down with both Leah and Mike and their generosity and graciousness. We tasted quite a few wines and enjoyed hearing from Leah the story/history of how they met and their evolution into the wine passion/business. Though it is sold out they still poured a taste of the 2015 Beckstoffer George III which I must say is a stunning wine. I was blown away at how drinkable yet structured and smooth this wine was for a 2015. We also tasted (among others) the Carter Three Kings, and Las Piedras "La Bam" both of which were just delicious and seductive. I am now a fan of both Thomas Brown and Mike (and Leah) Smith and will certainly be buying more of their wines to add to my cellar. I was able to find a couple bottles of "14" Maybach from 750 wines so I'm excited to compare that to the Myriad. Heading to Realm tomorrow and it will be interesting to try to compare. thanks again for the recommendation!

5/11/2017 6:53:00 AM - Thanks csimm1161. Those choices are intriguing, and definitely off my (previous) radar. Hopefully we will be able to set up a visit to several. Always exciting to go to new facilities and have new taste experiences.

5/10/2017 2:27:00 PM - Hi drpete99. Of course everyone has their personal favorites, but the ones I have been particularly fond of lately include (in addition to Realm): - Maybach; Outpost (both are from winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Good luck getting a tasting with Maybach, but Outpost has limited tastings) - Carter; Myriad (both are from winemaker Mike Smith. Tastings are usually held at Envy Winery - contact Mike directly for Myriad, or Dan from Carter) - Pott (a different style of Napa Cabernet - not as rich and hedonistic as some of the other aforementioned brands; quality of fruit is high; Aaron Pott schedules tastings sometimes, but you'll have to contact them directly) - Tor (Jeff Ames does a good job with the top shelf BTK, Cimarossa, and Melanson wines) - Alpha Omega (only their top shelf Cabs; tastings are usually easy to schedule) & Debate (made by AO's winemaker). There are also some conglomerate shops that taste wine regularly: Ma(i)sonry & ACME. Also check out Golden Gate Wine Cellars in SF for a decent selection of local Napa Cabs that are a little more under the radar.
