  • 2021 Hudson Vineyards Syrah

Stunning texture, with cottony tannins, and a full body, that is light and lifted. Blueberries, lilacs, white pepper, braised pork, dried shallots and river rock. Unfolds without effort and at the core displays this lovely, deep fruit. The finish sails on. The body remains full, regardless of the lift. Such a demure Syrah. Legendary in form and fashion; this remains just astounding. This will outlast many. Drink 2026 -.

  • 2021 Hudson Vineyards Grenache

Feminine and lighter in colour, with pure Grenache fruit. Raspberry, tarragon, basil, lava rock, lilies and dried cherries. Succulent, long and simply pretty. Layers of red fruit and very silky tannins. Quite young, a couple more years will only help show the complexity. Medium body and sappy. There is a sous bois element throughout. I’m guessing stem inclusion, with little new oak. Very reminiscent of Carlisle’s Rossi - which is from a very different terroir. Drink 2026 - 2038.

  • 2020 Hudson Chardonnay La Doña

Absolutely ravishing. An amalgam of the finest barrels for Hudson, this is a real stunner. There’s depth and weight, yet this is lithe and pure. Almost weightless. White pineapple, lemon oil, pie crust, mineral, vanilla and chamomile. The length of the finish is far over a minute, and the juicy middle is amazing. Glycerin and although there was mostly new oak, there is no sign of it. So close to perfection, with this backend grip. This will age for many a year. Drink now - 2040.

11/23/2023 12:52:00 AM - Surprised to see you don't have any Carlisle in your cellar, or have you hidden your wines? I look forward to the pick-up & tasting at Carlisle on 12/2/23!

12/27/2012 7:42:00 AM - Matt, thanks for the relply back on my Pisoni comment. I was not so much ranting on your approach to add a score, but moreso the dynamic of the professional critic and how all that affects wine, in addition to scores they assign. Enjoyed reading your profile too and getting to know you a bit better. Happy holidays, Matt.

7/7/2012 4:42:00 PM - Perlasteve, Your Cayuse collection looks stunning! The Ladera is built for the cellar or a serious decant. Thanks for the kind note and hope you enjoy. I'll let you know the next time I'm in Seattle and same goes for when you are in Honolulu. Cheers! PinkMoon, Manfred is a genius! SQN is my favorite American wine; and I appreciate your note. I enjoy your profile as well.

6/8/2012 10:37:00 AM - I was intrigued by your tasting comments on the Ladera 2006 Howell Mountain, somewhat contrarian to other comments. So I checked out your cellar to see what wines you purchase. Blown away by your Bordeaux as well as others (like your Quilceda Creeks, I am from WA and have an 11 year vertical going). Love your profile. So I have decided to buy a few bottles and stagger over time. If you are ever in Seattle area, bring a bottle and we can share wines with my wine buddies at a good restaurant.
