A good, fruit forward and well balanced Aussie Rhone blend of grenache, shiraz and mataro (mourvedre) - same blend as in Torbreck's The Steading but not aged as long. In a good drinking window now with at least a few more years of cellaring time left but not sure how much more this wine will improve. A good QPR wine. This was enjoyed at the inaugural tasting of our new wine club earlier this week and I definitely preferred this to the preceding '07 The Steading. Most of the group favored this as the wine of the flite. Opened up for about two hours in the wine glass w/out an otherwise formal decant and I definitely recommend decanting this wine. Still quite a big and unmistakeably Aussie wine attempted to be made in a French Rhone style - relatively mellow and soft given the blend but not a French Rhone style wine. Plenty of fruit, soft tannins, well balanced, good mouth feel, not jammy but fruit too big and warm weather to be French in style. Very dark wine with a reasonable aftertaste. Balanced nose of dark fruit, spice, oak and black pepper. Palate of oak, black fruit, spice, black pepper, meat and smoke with a hint of eucalyptus on the late palate. Recommend this wine - as noted above this wine does definitely have time left but not sure there is an upside to furthering cellaring.

60% grenache 20% Mataró 20% syrah Screwcap inox no oak. Reduction then opened up, spicy monastrell notes In mouth the mataro is very present as far as flavor characteristics go. Medium plus body, long finish, excellent. I'd be interested to see how it ages and how long it will be good for? It was already a 2009 and still seemed youthful once it opened up. With the screw cap it seems like it could age at least 10 years more

An Aussie Cuvee of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Mataro. Made in honor of the french wine bar Juveniles in Paris. Heavy eucalyptus nose. Medium body dominated by whipped cream, vanilla, oak, and a candied cherry finish. Sells for about $20-25 a bottle.

Perfectly open for business. Clean and fresh Grenache nose. The lack of oak makes the fruit very pure. The acidity is rather quiet but still the wine is a very nice food companion. This effort is proof of the skills of winemaker David Powell. It is unmistakingly an Australian wine, but balanced and expressive and rather intriguing - and the bottle age has done it justice!

Big cherry nose with a little heat. This medium body GSM explodes on the palate with jammy fruity notes but without excess sweetness. Balanced and layered. Drinks like a cross between a Zin and a Pinot. Berry nice.

Blend: Grenache 60%, Syrah 20%, Mataro 20% Color: Purple-red Aroma: Vanilla, dark fruit; spectacular nose Taste: Dark cherry/berries, medium tannins, some chew, big mouth feel Finish: Long Notes: Delicious. We could have drunk a second bottle. Tasted good by itself and was fabulous with food (bluefish, spicy eggplant dish). This is a wine to drink now and not a wine to cellar for long. The ancient vines give the wine real character. We met the owner (Dave Powell) at a local tasting. He is quite a character and very brunt. He tells it as he sees it. His wines seem to reflect his character. We only bought two bottles. Now, we need to see if we can go back and get a few more.

Big, pleasant and very drinkable but very fruity / jammy and somewhat one dimensional. Enjoyed recently with good CT wine buddy neighborbill at our CC for dinner. Not at all a bad QPR wine at this price point but it is clearly an entry level effort. Very dark, big mouthfeel, a long sweet aftertaste, loads of dark juicy fruit present. Aromatic open nose of dark fruit, pepper and a hint of eucalyptus with primary flavors of rich intense black fruit, a surprisingly woody profile given that this wine sees no oak, mocha in the mid-palate and pepper / cooking spices coming through on the end. I do recommend this wine at this price point, this would probably benefit from a couple years of cellaring but overall not sure how much this will improve with age.

Popped and poured...and then consumed over the next 24 hours. Initially some vegetal funk that blew off completely after a couple of hours. Looked to be a bit of bricking towards the edges though the flavor profile did not suggest this was over the hill. A previous note about oak has me scratching my head...this wine never saw it (fact) and has zero indication of oak character, period. Perhaps the individual who made the note is a little confused on what oak treatment brings to a wine. Anyway...the fruit expression was utterly pure if not a bit "preserved" towards the last glass after a day of being open. A really interesting wine to experience and a very decent daily drinker. It won't blow any minds though. Probably worth $20 or so for the quality of fruit alone. I would buy again.

Wonderful nose, wonderful flavour. Unique. Hints of teryaki/soy sauce, even bacon fat. 150-year-old Mourvedre vines power through, even though a minority grape. I liked this on its own, though it would also be good, perhaps better, with food. A most interesting experience. Excellent.

Unscrewed and followed over about 4 hours. Very dark, dusty ruby color, about 90% saturated. Standard legs. Modest bouquet of cherry, blackberry, lavender and violets, Asian spices. For a wine that sees no oak, this came across as one the oakiest wines I've ever had! It was like sucking on a barrel stave that had previously been used as a pooper scooper (the "funk" that everyone else refers to). After a few hours, the "wood" did integrate but the wine remained very dry, bitter, and grippy. Performs dramatically better with food and although it shouldn't matter, I'm tempted to give a score with food and a score without because it made such a huge difference to the enjoyment of this wine. with food, 4+10+15+6 = 85.

This is a pretty nice Australian blend for a fair price. 60% Grenache, 20% Shiraz, 20% Mataro (Mourvedre), no oak treatment. Fruit, some black pepper, and a little spice on the nose. Full-bodied and velvety on the palate, a bit sweet, with some acidity (almost tangy/tart) that helps bring the wine a little more in balance. While it's certainly on the big and fruity side, this is one of the better wines of this style I've tasted.

Torbreck Tasting: Current Releases including 2 Vintages of Runrig and The Factor (Sorella's): DArk red color. Blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Shiraz, and 20% Mataro. Yes, it's fruity, mostly ripe raspberry and cherry, yes it's funky, there is a significant amount of funk, but the main issue was this was way too green and herbal for me. The nose was ok, but the palate was just too much. even with the old vines in this blend, I didn't find it a style I like.

Apperently the same wine as The Steading just without the oak treatment. Meaty on the nose, a sweet meat note with some red fruits showing off. Palate is clear and bright, refreshing for an Aussie shiraz. Finish is a bit clipped by its acidity, would assume this means it has been acidified. Works at $20.

First impression is a bit frizzante, but with an hour or so of air it disappears. This wine is a pure fruit bomb, especially since it has not touched oak the fruit is massive but still clean in its expression. This is not a wine for the "wine police", but it most certainly drinks well right now. Recommended.

Drank with our meal at a nice restaurant in town. This wasn't what we expected out of this GSM blend. It was definitely fruity and was light in weight. Blueberry with some tannins. The odd part was how "spritzy" it was as if it had some carbonation/manufactured element to it which was off-putting.

A riche palate of Grenache kirsch, tayberry preserve and sun dried strawberries. The 2009 Cuvée Juveniles is a funky wine - a massive fruit attack - which is emphasized by the fact that the wine has not been exposed to oak. Drinking this now requires 2-3 hours of aeration. Recommended.

Nose of cherries. This is far too volatile to drink now but have high hopes that it will settle down in a year or two. Mixed berry jam mouth, figs, dark chocolate, generous but needs to settle down. Licorice, lychees on the finish - some sweetness and good length. The score could go up quite a bit if the volatility settles down with age. Mystified why it is released so young.
