I determined the other day that I have a bit too many dessert wines and thus grabbed this on a whim in hopes of remedying the situation. Quite dark--a deep amber, ginger ale type color, with aromas of apricot, honey, and passion fruit (?). Quite sweet on the palate with a nice tartness. This is not going anywhere soon. Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

Nice improvement in 4 years. Honey, marmalade, smoke, stone fruit, earth, a little menthol, and dried pineapple on the nose. Honey, orange, citrus peel, earth, and spice on the light palate. Decent acidity (thought I prefer more), light-medium body, short-medium finish. Overall, this was pleasant and tasty, but maybe a bit simple. It went great with an almond cake though.

I know that Sauternes gets most of the love in the region, but some of the satellites (like Loupiac) are capable of producing some really fine wines. This is a case in point. Great honeyed pineapple with a perfect sugar level. This wine has a ways to go, but it was fabulous tonight.... Outstanding. thedrunkencyclist.com

An evening with Clos des Papes (Againn, Washington DC): A Loupiac so an interesting curveball brought by the curveball master Jace. Some exoticism (think pineapple and lychee) and acidity to boot. This isn't as refined or focused as a great Sauternes but at 7 dollars a split, a fantastic value and a great learning experience

Best bottle of the lot. Nose of apricot, peach, honeysuckle, pineapple, botyris. On the palate, dried yellow fruit, honey, lemon drop. Finishes with a lift of acidty. Excellent. Great value. Drink or hold.

Not bad for the price, but actually I would rather spend twice as much for a few more points. Some honey and lemon. Light, slightly spicy, and a little hot. To me it needs more of something: flavor, acidity, balance, length, spice... Unlike my Doisy's, I have little desire to open another one. 84.

This bottle was better than the last one, but I did not increase the rating (yet). It was served at the end of the night so the palate may not be quite as clear. Nose was crisp and clear. Peach and apricot. The nose is the best part of the wine. Taste seemed smoother to me than I remembered.

was this really only $9?! Nicely balanced fruit, that starts off with a hint of diesel. Absolutely delicious. NOt overly long on the finish, but I can imagine this developing a few more layers with cellar age. I doubt I'll have the patience to wait that long...

Terrific value for the money. Obviously won't be mistaken for a premiere cru sauterne, but very pleasant drinking and makes a terrific dessert wine to have on hand in the fridge for all occasions. Slightly less sweet than many sauternes, the balancing acidty makes this pretty versatile and appealed to even some of the non-dessert wine fans in the group.

A surprisingly very nice sticky. Nose of lemon, peach, and honey. A slight heat and spiciness on the palate for the first few hours of being open. Day 2 this wine shows splendidly, integrating and gaining intensity. One of the top QPRs of the year.

Nice light yellow color. Soft mix of apple, peach and honey. Drinking well now. Medium finish. Amazing affordable alternative to Sauternes at $6 per 375ml.

Nice golden color. Beautiful nose of apricot and melon. Flavors start with a little lemon zest and peach. High alcohol and mead (fermented honey) flavors. The finish contains white pepper (which is a little odd) and the high alcohol hinders the finish. Not as sweet as I would expect, and I had a hard time rating it.

Complex nose of floral honey, peach, grass clippings and dusty cellars. Taste a bit of a let down though. Sweet and clean but less complex.

This is getting even better with more age. It's no Sauterne. But at this price the tart nose and charming taste are a sweet treat.
