Semi blind tasting flight of 6. Blind for the rest of our group. 2014 DuMol Finn, 2009 Jaboulet Chapelle, 1988 Sandrone Cannubi, 1999 Tignanello, 2014 Cos d'Estournel and 2017 Penfold St Henri
This bottle thrown in as a replacement for a corked wine. It was first coravined 3 years ago but held up really well. Not spoilt as the group put in in place no 3, but it was clearly more advanced than it should be at this age. This is my note from the first coravin tap ;
Opulent blue/black fruit, some earthy notes, black olive or maybe licorice. Aromas are definitely sweeter than the RWT. Rather similar mouth impression when it comes to flavours/aromas. Fine tannins and far from intrusive. Medium to full bodied but still the impression is rather cool. Very nice balance and a long finish. Very good already but not quite up to the RWT. 93-94p range.

👃Nose: Aromas of blackberry , mocha coffee, chocolate, pepper and spices.
👅Palate: Full body and well structured. Medium to high tannin, became smooth 2 hours later. (in decanter) Long finish and delicate taste. Classic Australia Shiraz, still needs 5-10 years for further aging.
🧮Overall Rating: 93

Big, deep and powerful but well structured and totally delicious. Nice balance of fruit and savoury nuances. Layered and complex. Plums, berries and tar. Classic high quality Australian shiraz. Many years still in it.

Blueberry, distinct black fruits, liquorice, some bitterness, dark chocolate, probably still too young, full bodied fruit bomb, sweet cherry, thick, syrupy, fruity chocolatey tannin - that penfolds stamp, builds and builds,

Takler alkohol bra. 92

Penfolds dinner. Always solid, always a good value, the St.Henri is also true to itself today. Expressive nose with dark berries, plum, spices. Medium-full bodied, ripe South Australian palate but not over the top, stays balanced. 93+

By the glass. Notes of plums and figs on the nose. Also sandalwood and leather. Balanced on the palate, with a good acidity and a decent length. Tasty and representative wine from this house. Emerging Mini-Grange.
Por copas. Notas de ciruelas e higos en nariz. También sándalo y cuero. Equilibrado al paladar, con una buena acidez y una decente longitud. Vino sabroso y representativo de la casa. Un mini-Grange en ciernes.

Rich and really down under with a great feeling of red alcoholic berries, plums, leather, vanilla powder and licorice. Good full-bodied and rich wine with very good freshness in the mouthfeel despite the alcohol level. Great fruit of plums, redder juicy berries, leather, licorice, vanilla and great spice tones that lie behind and give joy. Nice acidity and tannin structure. Very pretty St.Henri this. 93 points.
Tried with RWT 2018 side by side. A coravin sample pour to satisfy my curiousity.

Well, not as open as 2016 on this yearly stage Dark fruit, tobacco and a hint of baconfat. It’s heavy and a bit unpolished now. Will probably be even better with age 92 at today performance

T.....gentle tannins, classy fruit, ripe and lush but plenty of acid too, too young at 3 yrs old, feels as though cellaring will see this wine evolve to a lovely dry red.
Rec RP £95.00......Hmmm, a 91 wine but I wouldn't be happy paying that price.

Deep ruby in the glass. Big sweet nose reminiscent of blueberry, blackcurrant juice, mint, chocolate, vanilla, freshly cut wood. Rich palate with high alcohol, medium acid and fine tannins. Still young, still has potential to mellow out and balance itself across the board. Nonetheless, this is very approachable right now. Top effort.
