An enjoyable wine but for the price, this doesn't deliver anything special. I hate to compare wines but I've only had SO Napa Valley in the past and this doesn't measure up. Is it just a subpar vintage? Is the Alexander Valley fruit not as distinctive as the Napa?

Second bottle. Worse than last year. Overpowering taste of alcohol, closed, even after a decant. Day 2 was marginally better but nothing like classic Silver Oak. My concern is that the floral and typical notes of this varietal were also muted or not present. I’m hard-pressed to believe the wine will improve with time. When the alcohol fades, we may be left with nothing.
I’m curious as to others, who think it is, classic Silver Oak, I think Justin Meyer wouldn’t be o pressed one little bit. Thoughts?

Robust and concentrated with cassis, herbs and tart red berry fruit. Smooth with a round finish. Dark fruit filled vibrant finish with long lingering concentrated tannin. The acidity is amazing in this cab, its just right, balancing off the fruit and tannin. Long potential cellaring. This will improve. Drink 2025-2034.

Perfumed, concentrated black fruits, lots of sweet oak and sweet spice, so enticing on the nose, one can smell this all day, on the palate it's round with silky smooth tannin, that 14% alcohol feels like nothing. After consuming half a dozen bottles, I purchased another case after enjoying it so much. However, I’ve been very disappointed as well as my guests tasting with me in this second case. Very shallow and light without the characteristic oak and tannins that blend for super be nose and taste. Have opened and let breathe for over an hour and still no difference. I’m going to let it age in the bottle for five years before I drink more.

Silver Oak's 2016 Alexander Valley bottling is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Merlot, with the balance comprised of Petit Verdot and Malbec. Tasted at the winery's Alexander Valley facility, it is a deep ruby wine that serves up an aromatic profile of cassis, kirsch, baking spices, eucalyptus and mint. Full-bodied, fresh and with nicely integrated alcohol, it delivers flavors in line with the nose and stays solid on the mid-palate. The fine-grained tannins and American oak are assimilating well at this early stage, making for a wine that is already quite drinkable. Solid on the mid-palate and medium-to-long on the back end, this is a good expression of Silver Oak's Alexander Valley style. Enjoy it throughout the decade. Drink now-2030.

I could smell the vanilla and spice on the nose as soon as this wine was poured into my glass; in time, red and dark fruit also presented on the nose. On the palette, red and dark fruits, more vanilla and spice, and an almost tobacco like quality came through on the finish. I thought this wine was very good. The texture was silky - but could've benefited from more weight.
I know others have said the nose on this wine is astringent - I had the complete opposite experience. My wine was served to me at a wine club, pulled right out of a temperature controlled cellar held at 55 degrees Fahrenheit. No decanting was done.

Not for me. Aggressively oaky. Astringent and totally disjointed. It's more drinkable than a crap bottom shelf wine, but only just, and definitely does not live up to the hype or the price point. Comes across fake, and trying way too hard. Kind of like that dude at a party who talks about himself ad nauseam that you can't seem to get away from and you wish would just shut up.

I was disappointed in this wine although I had no particular expectations. It was ordered at a restaurant and I thought it would be a decent bottle. We decanted and gave it a bit of time. There was nothing Cabernet-like about it. There was no structure, the fruit was restrained to the point of being non-existent (perhaps it was underripe?) and the nose was astringent. The word I kept using was “thin”. It just fell apart in my mouth.
I let this wine breathe for about 20 minutes before I tried it. You should definitely give it a chance to breathe; if you're expecting the wine to be approachable immediately, you might think it's not great. But after about 20-30 minutes, the wine starts coming together: red and blue fruit aromas with strong acidity, red fruit flavors, and grippy tannins. Sweet and sour candy mouthfeel (but neither sweet nor sour). Truly needs an hour or more to get going and take on the silky mouthfeel I expect. Demands a food pairing too.
Look this was a decent wine but Silver Oak Alexander at 75.00 a bottle I expected more. A nice balance of fruit, cherry, mixed berries with a moderate structure made this quite enjoyable. What was lacking was a finish, any signs of Tannins, and or flavor that makes me want to go spend $75.00 for this is simply not there. A drinkable wine but disappointing for the price point.

Dinner party of some mixed wine drinkers. This was the wine of the night even after some amazing blends. I still personally feel this wine needs a few years based only on other wines of Silver Oak Alexander Valley I have drank. This is what I love about wine even novice drinkers can bring insight that a seasoned drinker has to appreciate. This wine while young still made everyone take a moment to appreciate the quality.

Deep plump purple color. Leather, crushed black pepper and chocolate covered raspberry on the nose. Maybe even a little rosemary. Really taste the soil. After opening up for 2 hours it was almost too acidic to drink. VA.
1 hour decant. Dark fruits, vanilla, and chocolate up front followed by herbs and dry tannins. Good Cab but difficult to justify the $85 price at this point of it's drinking life.

Silver Oak Healdsburg Tasting: At this stage, a blind taster might note subtle differences, but they would be hard pressed to make the case that the 2016 Alexander Valley, 2016 Napa Valley, and 2017 Timeless should span such a wide price range ($80, $125, and $166 respectively). The power of the word “Napa” in the market is astounding. All three wines are currently a bit thin and heavily oaked, with variations on a distinctly vanilla nose. The Alexander Valley sets itself apart in two ways: its fruit is a little more purple (to the Napa’s red and Timeless’ red and black), and it’s a comparative bargain buy—the perfect gift for somebody who just wants to grill steaks in their backyard and open a decent cab from a name they know. Give it a couple years and drink over the following decade.

Received this as an end of the year “appreciation” gift from a federal partner.
I’d never buy this wine. For the price, I’m going elsewhere. Too many $70-80 bottles that will blow this out of the water. Not even going to get into the descriptors. Save your cash and by something else. For instance Col Solare for $70 will destroy this wine.
Thin and short. Not sure why people freak out about this wine. Same goes for Caymus. Just doesn’t live up to the hype.
Keep in mind, I’m rating this based on the fact that I know what it is and what it costs... would I drink it for free every day? Yes. If you told me this bottle was $40... I’d score it much higher, maybe a 92.
Interesting nose with vanilla, blackberry, herbs, twigs. On the palate the green notes overpowered the plentiful fruit, long finish but a sharpness that I didn't enjoy. I think that it was too young. I had this with roast chicken stuffed with chorizo. It's definitely a food wine. I had high expectations - as I do for any $70 wine and was left asking "what's the big deal?"
Fresh herb and ground spice aromas; dark berry flavors with a streak of vanilla bean on finish; opened an hour before pouring through aerator, but still needs more time to come around, 2022 at the soonest; paired well with Christmas crusted prime rib

You know what? This is delicious. I know it’s unfashionable to like Silver Oak but I honestly don’t know why. This is a very fine bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. The alcohol is very well handled, the acidity is excellent, the oak is already quite well integrated, and the fruit is pure, sweet, and ripe without being at all overripe. One thing I will say: if you don’t like American oak, look elsewhere. The dill is strong in this one. I happen to be a fan, but it could be off-putting for some. Medium weight, not at all overdone or over-extracted, genuinely refreshing. Another thing to bear in mind: this could be perceived as “sweet” by some palates given the oak and fruit qualities. It does have sweet oak and sweet fruit character, which I think suit it, but it doesn’t taste at all sugar-sweet. 13.9%, $70.

I’ve always enjoyed Silver Oak and this one is no different. It has a real nice nose that smells like blackberry and vanilla. The start is so nice it’s a little bit of berry and a little bit of that sweetness from the vanilla
In the end it finishes so nice it punches the blackberry and vanilla up then closes with a bit of tobacco.

I have to say that I was underwhelmed.

Silver Oak Healdsburg Tasting Experience (Silver Oak Cellars Healdsburg, Ca.): Tasting Silver Oak Healdsburg (Silver Oak Cellars Healdsburg, Ca.): Nose of cinnamon, sage, black berry, black cherry, sage, briar, and spring flowers, same on the palate, big body, young, surprisingly fruit forward for this vintage and youthful age, very tasty, easily last 20 years and needs 4 years to peak, mouth filling fruit, great tasting starting point, soft tannins, and a long, long finish.

Silver Oak rarely disappoints. 2016 is no exception. Had on my wife's birthday while on a trip to TN. Married well with our cheese board and steaks from the Greenbrier in Maryville, TN.
