Garnet red in colour and clear, this wine had a nose of dark cherries and yeast. In the glass were flavours of those dark berries with a hint of ripe cherries and a good amount of toast. The acidity and tannins were quite strong but in good balance with the wine. The alcohol level on this were a bit strong tonight.

This was a member contribution for the night. Lot's of heat from the alcohol. A bit disjointed at this point in time. Obviously a cult wine that is fun to have in the line up but was lost next to some of the classics like Chave or Guigal. The table picked the 15 Eisele Syrah over the SQN in the new world bottlings.
Matt Morris's white hawk was another standout even though painfully young.

Decanted for 3.5 hours. Aromas of blueberry, cherry, kirsch liquor, iron and chocolate Grenache. Flavors of blueberry, raspberry, cherry, iron and coffee. Ends with a 40 second finish with raspberry notes. Needs some more time to open up. Will update.
Update: started to shut down around the 5 hour mark for some reason. Saved the rest and had on day 2. More open for business for sure with smoother tannins and more pronounced fruit.
Very dark color. Long legs. Decanted for 5 hours. Nose is oh-so-complex - blackberry jam, plums, some sultana raisins, dried lavender… so much going on in there. The palate is equally as complex with great balance, good acidity and grippy tannins, then garrigue, plums, blackberry paste, a touch of alcohol, sandalwood, some tobacco leaves. The ending is long and goes on and on with some oak notes and sweet vanilla to balance the grippy tannins. Wow - a great wine! Still very young - it will benefit from more cellaring but it’s already stunning with a long decant. Extravagant is a word that describes it well - but this is so well balanced that it comes out as brilliant. Highly recommended!

US BYO (Esmee): Lovely intensity and balance but it also seem to be very closed at the moment. There is plenty of things to enjoy but it is clear that this need more time in the bottle or a very long decanting before consumption. The balance and intensity is impeccable but lacks depth and length at the moment.

This was drank at home after opening for 1 hour. The wine was clear and deep purple in colour with a nose of dark berries, some dirt and a noticeable nuttiness. In the glass were tons of ripe cherries and vanilla. The tannins and acidity were quite strong and the wine had quite a long finish. Despite my positive notes, something seemed to be disjointed in this bottle.

This is such an interesting exercise every time I open these, I think I'm going to be underwhelmed...and it's great...for what it is. It's just not what I want often, and two 4oz. glasses is more than enough. It was excellent with the steak, but I kept wishing I was drinking Chave, Levet, Beaucastel, or even Bordeaux. This is an exceptional bottling, and I love pulling them out for a few special occasions every now & again.

This bottle was decanted for 7 hours prior to drinking. It was garnet red in colour and slightly hazy. The nose was predominantly dark berries mixes with some raspberries and a hint of cherries and prunes. In the glass was a wine dominated by dark berries mixed with a noticeable amount of dark chocolate. The wine was quite strong in alcohol and tannins while having a nice mid level of acidity. As a final note, the leftover was wine was noticeably better after a total of 30 hours decanting. If you can wait that long, my rating would go up to 95 points.

Everytime I am fortunate enough to taste a SQN I always think it’s gonna be overrated and everytime I drink it I’m just blown away. Full bodied dark plum hued with aromas of plum liquor, blackberry, and pepper. Flavors continue on the palate with exception grace and mouthfeel. Such a great wine. I think it could be 98/99 in pros books. Wow. Highly recommended

The Last Dance Magnum Dinner (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Magnum. Opulent and extravagant with very ripe fruit and near-sweet spice, but just so darn balanced that it stays bright and engaging despite its clearly high level of alcohol. And it manages to do so from start through its very long finish. 94-95 points.

This is just a stunning Grenache, layers upon layers upon layers of red and black fruit: red cherries, black cherries, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry, cranberries and other wild berries on the finish. Minimal tertiary aromas, no vegetal aromas (think Rayas) to speak of. Two days after opening the wine still delivers full time. In a few years with more complexity it can hit a 100 point mark.

Alma with Ellen & James: James’ main event tonight - 79% Grenache from the 11 Confessions Vineyard along with 18% Syrah and 3% Petite Sirah. Black fruits, violets and kirsch on the nose. Palate of black fruits, kirsch, leather, mocha, wet violets, roses, liquorice, spiced plums. Super long finish. Powerful, concentrated and full bodied. New World in style. This definitely needs more time for me. I would give 94/95 for its potential

Sweet red fruits, candied cherries, strawberries, cinnamon, milk chocolate and cocoa powder, velvety texture and really hides the alcohol well. Perfect balance but lacking a little on complexity at this stage. Nose was also not very giving.

The color is deep garnet, opaque, and ruby at the edge. The smells are currants, cherries, sweet red jam, and blackberries. Much fruit on the nose with some hints of wet stone. Tastes are cherries, tart raspberries, cedar, strawberries, and currants. This is hedonistic, the tannins are strong but velvety, and the finish is lengthy.

Had for our 21st Anniverssary. MUST be decanted at least 3-4 hours to let it open up. Deep, dark Grenache. Impeccable balance, even at 15.9%. Truly an epic expression of Grenache but with an amazing power behind it

Woah, this is quite a wine. The biggest, baddest Grenache I have ever tasted. Hugely concentrated mostly red fruit hits you in waves as soon as it touches the pallet. Tons of raspberry, strawberry, black cherry and asian spices and a bit of black tar. This one seems to go on forever, with nicely integrated tannins and big time structure. This will last a long time. Don't think this varietal can get much better.
Vice Versa: An absolute monster of a Grenache-dominated blend, with viscous and deeply pitched black raspberry, red/black licorice, Amarema black cherry syrup, black and blue river rock, and subtle incense flavors. Massive mid-palate, with a rich, powerful finish.
For me, the only thing that kept this from a perfect score was simply the sheer amount of fruit on the front-end attack. There’s just...so...much...FRUIT! I love me a slap of sexy, sultry juice, and this certainly delivers on that front. The cut, however, was just a hair out of balance with the bulging weight of fruit flavors. Hey, I was a giddy fan; it was just a little noticeable. But all ya had to do was take another sip and you really didn’t give a sh**!
97 solid points. An awesome sacrifice from our host to agree to pop the cork on this bad boy. I felt grateful to be able to experience this wine... and it was an experience indeed! A great ride of a wine! Drink now and over the next 8-10+ years.

PnP and consumed over the next 3-4 hours, amazing out of the gate although the nose may have been a bit tight, very much like a CdP without the minerality, dark brooding red and black fruits, violets and roses, cooking spices, nose really developed over a couple hours and is truly amazing, palate has more of the same with addition of chocolate, kirsch liquor, licorice, absolutely perfect balance, really an amazing wine, and one of the best wines I've had this year if not the best.

Decanted for an hour. Blueberry capote, charred barrel, dried strawberry, crushed lava, sarsaparilla, elderberry liqueur and flower shop. The evolution this goes through within the first hour alone is mesmerizing. The finish is as episodic as it is honed. Reticent, and more finely tuned than one would expect, this is perfect on every single imaginable level. Round and seamless tannins. Truly legendary as I cannot imagine a better Grenache - period. This is its own idiom. Drink 2022 -.

Opened two hours before consuming. Ripe, red, sexy fruit fruit on the nose. A lot of complexity throughout, from aroma to finish. Cloves, vanilla, and a sweet burnt brown butter hangs on the tongue with some underlying grit, like creosote.
