Decanted two hours. Still needs time to mature. Dark fruit and a touch of menthol. Long finish. Balance is nice, but needs more time. Cork in great shape. Excellent bottle and looking forward to revisiting in 3 to 5 years.

Monthly Men's Wine Dinner (Purple Cafe, Bellevue, WA): Decanted and it needed it. Quite restrained for 45 minutes but then began to open, showing beautiful deep chocolate and dark fruit on the palate. It kept putting on weight over two hours. My #2 of 5 and the group's #5.

Maybe we found a 2014 bottle that wasn’t shut down? This wine was open for business and drinking very well, finished slightly off dry, black color, extraordinary nose of sweet fruit, vanilla, roasted coffee. Smooth as silk, tannins there but completely in balance, full and mouth coating. Wotn for at least 4 of the 8 around the table.

Charleston Food & Wine Festival; 3/1/2018-3/3/2018 (Charleston, SC (various locations)): The highlight of the evening. Like most 2014's, more approachable than average for a young Napa wine. Lots of fruit. Felt like there was more acidity here than the Scarlet Love which kept it a bit more balanced. Reasonable Napa although not sure I see it for the price point.

Black lung aside, this Poetry needs to spend some decent time in a Minority Report halo sleep prison. It may turn out to be a totally epic wine, but it ain’t showing my palate any true love right now. All balled-up and furrowed brow at the moment.

Whirlwind Winter Tasting in the Valley; 2/7/2018-2/10/2018 (Napa Valley, CA): Another 2014 Cliff Lede wine that is totally backward and shut down. It is just nails. Lots of blueberries, spring flowers, some black tar and licorice on the nose. Huge and totally massive, this wine is coiled up for an unknown duration. I wouldn't open one for a long time. Can't rate.

Opaque black cherry center with ruby rim and big legs; nose of plums and cassis; palate follows nose with pronounced compote notes; big Shiraz-like fruit bomb; not interesting enough to justify the price point

Opulent and showy upon opening. BBQ sauce, black fruit, perfumey . Tannins are well integrated for such a young wine. This is approachable now, though it should last decades.

Even with lots of air, it’s still a little awkward. Not coming together with age as hoped. Maybe more time, but likely it is what it is.

Drinking well now with an all day open. Still big structure with grainy tannins. Not the most complex Poetry but nice for the vintage.

Slow ox for an hour, then aerated into glass. Needed all of it and more. Drinking very young but already excellent with lots of future potential.
