This 88 Caymus Cab still has much to offer. The Bad: the cork broke off while opening; a noticeable brownish color at the edges while decanting, and when I first tasted the wine (prior to decanting), the fruit was almost tasteless. The Very Good: the wine came alive with rich fruits (after decanting & breathing for 3+ hours) and had a refined & delicate finish. Overall, tasteful, smooth, & a very nice finish.

Popped and poured to enthusiastic guests. Some fruit, but not anywhere near as big as a typical Caymus cab. Still not a bad bottle. It was earthy and showed it's age, but not flawed at all.

It needed an hour of breathing after decanting, then opened up to currant flaovors, with tannic structure left, but all the edges smoothed. This wine has aged nicely. My guest loved it and would rate it higher.

Ruby colored with a hint of brown. On the nose sour cherry, barnyard, and saddle leather. Nice layering of red fruits. Smooth and complex. Finish is smooth without any tannin ending with a hint of sour and tart. Past its prime but still a nice wine. Decanted in the glass for 25 minutes.

With BLR at the office. Gorgeous black ruby color. Great legs. Fabulous nose. Black fruits, licorice. Oak is perfectly integrated. Incredible concentration. Hard as nails on the palate; Tannic and tough, but there is fruit lurking. Needs a little time to soften, although I’d open it for the nose alone right now. 5-13-14-7: 89/100.

Nose shows oaky vanilla and roasted fruit. Palate is round with roasted, jammy fruit. Lower acidity. One note. Not integrated.

Well past it's prime, really not worth drinking.

Way over the hill, attenuated. Notes of leather and a little coffee, none of fruit. Little astringency. Probably ten years too late for this wine.

Over the hill but still nice with some hints of what it once was.

At the winery. Good dark ruby. Nose is a bit closed. Dark, big wine. Dense and chewy. 5-9-14-6: 84/100.
