  • Still big and bold. Very well balanced and enjoyable with a winter stew. Lots of bright fruits on the front end. Some earthy notes and still plenty of structure here. Drink or hold.

  • This bottle carried a youthful, dark purple color that looked much younger than its age. The nose and palate were initially unbalanced with more distinct oak showing for the first 30 minutes. With air, the cherry, raspberry, and plum fruit emerged from their slumber and were accompanied by floral and mineral notes as well as a touch of olive. The fruit remained subdued throughout the evening. This medium-bodied wine had balanced acidity and no rough edges. Overall, it was not as expressive as previous bottles, but it was still an enjoyable, contemplative drink.

  • 15.8% alcohol. Dark purple center with ruby rim. The expressive nose provides plum, olive, bacon, and earth. The palate is very complex with plum, black cherry, pepper, scotch tape, smoke, cinnamon, pine, mineral, and earth. Structurally, this is full-bodied with balanced acidity and a bit of tannic bite on the finish. Overall, this wine is complex and unique with a profile that has a thread of syrah and a touch of sweetness not found earlier in its evolution. It paired well with a braised beef and ziti noodle dish.

  • Really quite nice. The extended aging really worked will for this Syrah.

  • A great full-bodied new world Syrah. It is quite hedonistic, but does so in a balanced way... lots of dark fruit, oak and pepper. This is the anti-AFWE wine from California ;)

  • Dark purple color. Explosive nose of vanilla (like walking into a barrel room), warm sugar cookie, lavender, spice, and dark fruit. The palate is just as expressive as the nose with waves of vanilla, plums, blueberries, floral notes, and spice. Structurally, this wine is full-bodied with balanced acidity, which creates a plush, velvety mouthfeel. The finish is long with well rounded tannins. Overall, this wine is hedonistic and unabashed with ample, but not overwhelming, oak and deep fruit. A great experiment from Jeff and quite a contrast to his 06 Syrah which had a classic northern Rhone profile of olives and smoked meats.
