Opened 2020. First taste, very alcohol, thin, little fruit. Thought it was past its drinking window. Fortunately, I let bottle decant for an hour and tried again. It was fantastic. Not usually a Malbec fan, but this opened my eyes. Really enjoyed it. However, before we could finish the bottle it had changed again within a half hour or so. My advice if you have one: decant first and drink fast!

Deck over several hours and there were a lot of changes in the taste during that time (unsurprisingly). Right after opening, at first taste, fruit forward but light and closed up. Again, this would be expected. Evolved very nicely over the next few hours. Raisins, quince, dark fruit but not over the top (not jammy), hints of leather and tobacco, camphor on the nose. I think that this is drinking great now, but I can easily imagine that it can take another 5 years of aging.

dark black with no signs of oxidation - pretty nose of red berries, but not much complexity - the beauty of this wine is the soft, rich and well balanced mouth - 10 second finish - very pleasant to drink, even if not profound - this bottle could easily last another 10 years

RT/decant 2 hours. Corks broke in both bottles! Only light sediment. Dark purple. Lots of fruit - blackberry, blueberry. Hints of pepper. Moderate soft tannins. Dominant feature is incredible smoothness - like velvet. Medium weight. Lingering finish. Coherent from initial attack through mid palate and finish. Huge crowd pleaser; no one guessed it was a Malbec (most went with cabernet). Tastes very fresh but probably not more than a couple of years left.

4th Saturday group "uptown" tasting (Sue's): Aromas of sour red fruit dominate and follow through on the palate. This develops a candied red fruit quality as well. No guess as to what this was, and based on the wine's reputation, I'm assuming this was not a representative example.

Intenso e perfumado.

Opened a couple hours before drinking with grilled hamburgers. Very much a dark fruit/blackberry aroma, as well as a bit of black pepper. Taste was also big blackberry, yet a light feeling to it (i.e. not jammy). Also had some sort of earthy aroma and taste that reminds me of a Bordeaux. Still seems to be pretty tannic, and there is a bit of a pine taste on the finish. I would suggest holding off for at least a year on this to see some better integration. Lots of primary fruit with black tea, damp earth, red and black currant. With some air time, the wine relaxes a bit to reveal lovely tobacco and spice notes. An attractive gamey quality lurks in the background. Very lively acids somehow manage to provide solid lift and a clean, savory finish. A powerful second attack on the well developed mid-palate is engaging and rewarding. Recommended, the high price notwithstanding. Drink thru 2019+, but give it at least 2 hours of air if opening anytime soon.

Nose: Black pepper, blueberry cream pie, cedar box, tobacco, and dark cocoa. Palate: Graphite, sweet dark and ripe fruits - blueberries, raspberries, dark cherries - on the attack. Lots of delicious, ripe, syrupy fruit up front. Mid-palate reveals more fruit, this time sour cherries mingling with raspberries. This malbec is all fruit and doesn't show as much of the coffee and tobacco I've come to expect. Good balance overall - not much tannin action - but I've had better malbecs for 1/3 the price.

On a night that included an 02 The Maiden, an 04 Caymus Special Selection, an 04 Matriarch, and 02 The Standish, an 05 Winter, and an 07 Velvet Glove, this wine proved to exactly what I intended it to be -- a nice break in the flights, sort of to clense the palate, and break from the heavy tannins of the big Cali Cabs. This wine was delightful. Big open flavors of raspberries and blackberries. Refreshing as hell, and yet with some nice complexity. The ladies really liked this. It came in #4 in the face of some great competition, and only barely #4. Easily could have been #3. It also had the best nose of the night.

Retailer wine tasting (Lots of TNs incl. 05 Torre Muga, 05 Guado al Tasso, 06 Achaval Mirador, 05 Pintia, etc.) (Monterrey, Mexico): Gorgeous. Full of flaor, complete, with just enough acidity. Long, delicious finish. Santiago Achaval is good.
