A very pleasant Silver Oak that has aged well. Fruit profile is still very much in play, cherry and red currant. Some spiciness on the palate along with the sweet vanilla notes so common to Silver Oak’s wines. Moderate sedimentation. Did not decant or aerate prior to serving. Seems to be in a place where PnP is in order.

One of my favorites though I think we let this one hang in the cellar a little too long as personally I found it slightly past its prime but what the hell do I Know?
Lots of berries & currant with a hint of spice. Up front it is very nice really greats you with a nice fruit explosion, but found as it wound down it fizzled just a bit and didn't have the long finish I was looking for. Solid all around wine just expected a bit more.

Opened on a home cooking burger night. Amazing fruit on the nose. Blackberry and plum. But then first sip had a little spicy note to it that doesn’t really go with the fruity smell. We decanted and let it breathe for half hour and that mellowed it out, but not a bold cab. Very good, but not worth the price point in my opinion.

Bottle was not flawed but the drinking environment was. Pandemic outdoor dinner was too cold for the wine temperature. Note to self: drink white wine next time.
With the little that I gathered - wine was pretty classic for a Silver Oak Napa and it was quite balanced. Probably would be a wonderful drink at normal temperature.

Friend brought this to dinner and was kind enough to share. Had that unique Silver Oak Napa combination of rich, ripe dark fruit, lots and lots of oak, firm structure and rich texture. Drinking beautifully now. Reminds me of the Silver Oak of the mid-late1980s.

Big and beautiful black cherry after an hour of opening Smooth integrated tannins with still an oak presence. Have had this wine for 9 yrs and am so pleased with it’s development. Married wonderfully with a grilled rib eye for my wife’s early birthday evening🍷🍷

I absolutely agree with a drink date of 2021....depending on how it was stored...maybe NOW! This wine has reached it maximum life (little passed its peak), but was still pleasurable to drink. We enjoyed this with some prime rib, which paired nicely. Flavors were beginning to fade but black fruit this was present, finish was short, and legs medium. Tannins have soften - which takes us back to drink now. I have one bottle left which I will consume by the end of the year.

Surprisingly uninteresting. Even after a 4 hour decant flavors never really developed. It remained concentrated and almost bitter on its own. When paired with beef Wellington some fruits notes broke through.

Tasting: Silver Oak (Silver Oak, Napa): Red cabernet fruit notes, currant and dill with a dominant paprika note that I found distracting. Red berry fruit on the palate; medium finish.

oxidized. Weird as the cork had minimal wine penetration. But it was definitely bad, vinegary taste, reddish-brown, the whole thing. Anyone else experienced this with the 08 Napa?

Very dark red color, subtle 5mm transition. Drank a couple glasses over 2 hours. Ordered off the list. We went through 2 bottles of this, the first was decanted for an hour plus and the second was PNP. This was the only thing on the list before 2013, so I took a flyer and was pleasantly surprised. This showed some age and character, restrained dark fruits, cassis, dried black cherry, leather, wood spice, briar and hints of graphite. This was medium bodied with fine tannins, good balance and no overt oak. The second bottle showed a more funky earth core along with the dark toned fruit. 91+pts.

Served at room temperature (70 degrees). Decanted for 45 minutes before first taste Cork in excellent condition- wine bleed 1-2 mm Color- Dark ruby/purple-no sign of oxidization in color Nose- Red fruit up front, leather, dirt and oak Palate- True to the nose. Tasted fine in the beginning although a little hot. Went well with the meal (veal) but once the meal was over I could not drink what was left. Wine did not turn or was bad but flavor profile did not lend itself to sipping without food. Have not met a Cab that I can't sip without food until now.

I know it’s a clichè to love Silver Oak, but it’s good for a reason. Opened the wine and decanted it for two hours. Phenomenal as expected. Nose was fruity, but the palate had aged well and it was balanced. Smooth and presence of fruit, but not overpowering at all.

Berry nose of raspberries, mulberries, and strong vanilla oak. Full bodied, berry fruit that has just reached maturity. Fruit-forward. There is a big wallop of vanilla oak, though it's probably a bit better now than it was on release. This is a good $16 California Cabernet.......oh wait, it's an $80 Silver Oak haha. Obnoxiously, offensively overpriced for what's actually inside the bottle.

Needed to breathe a little to open up. flavors of currant, leather, and black fruit. I beleive if this had sat another hour (drank at a restuarant - time limited), it would have been better.

Pretty unexciting, like a structured grape juice. Fairly dull nose, maybe blackberry, briars or green stems, some graphite. Medium high acid, medium minus tannins. Uninspiring at any price.

Drank slowly over a lazy Sunday afternoon and evening.......completely bland and without character. Massive disappointment.....no faults but just so bland..... as if someone set out to make a 'Coca Cola' of wine at $100 per bottle.

Nose of black cherry, black berry, cigar box, sage, and a touch of mocha, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, better the second night than the first, opened up with the refrigerated oxidation, touch of soft tannins on the mid palate, and a long finish.

Ethyl alcohol in aroma, a tannic finish that overpowers. Very dry. This wine has a great mouthfeel before the tannins kick in, and flavor notes of orange marmalade.

Popped a magnum for a family Christmas dinner.....For a winery that has been so reliable over the last couple decades on producing high quality wines I have been very disappointed; this is the 3rd Silver Oak Napa Valley I have opened in the last few months that has been below par; I had high hopes for this 2008 and have been sitting on this magnum for a few years. Its not that its bad or its corked or even flawed it's just....bland; no structure, no special taste, and no finish; it was what you would expect from a $10 table wine (as a matter of fact there was a $15 Cab on the table that was much better). I have 4 or 5 Silver Oaks left in the cellar and unless they are back to Silver Oak quality of 10 years ago I doubt I will be buying any more; almost depressing.
Definitely French style showing now. Leather and dried fruit (cranberries?) on the palate. Nose may be more interesting than the mouth at this point. Alcohol and sugars are muted. Tannins are mature and in the background. Decanter for half an hour. I would drink now.

Stewed berry, licorice, and a hint of forest floor, the nose is captivating. Tannins are still present with only a bit of sticky sediment on the decant, raspberry, sweet tomato, fruity in the nose but more structural on palate. This is an extraordinary and rich example of Napa fruit.

At Silver Oak this afternoon, Kathy wanted to return and buy a shirt seen that morning, so we did, nose of baker's chocolate, green bell pepper, black cherry, and black currants, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, delicious, showing it is near it's peak, good complexity, with a long, long finish.

Saturday night with grilled chicken and gravy so I opened one of my favorite wines and watched the 100 Foot Journey, nose of mocha, bell pepper, plum and black currants, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, in its prime, very tasty Cabernet Sauvignon, good complexity, almost elegant, has aged gracefully and will easily last another 12 years, long, long finish.

Drank against the 09 Alexander Valley. This one has nice chocolate notes and some dark fruit. More of the glycerin silkiness but not too much. I think more depth here and a longer finish. A little spice box perhaps. Just more interesting than the Alexander Valley and somewhat more European, which I favor. Still, an excellent American wine with an Anerican dinner - tenderloin, roasted potatoes, etc.

Enjoyed this bottle with Friends on Christmas Eve. Very good, smooth going down with a bit of an oaky smell at first and the fruit to follow. Very nice and easy drink - always a steady when opening Silver Oak, however, for $99 there are far better wines but I will still continue to buy Silver Oak bc it's good and fun for all to drink.

Lot of vanilla via likely American Oak influence. Fruit forward with likely cast of black fruit characters: currant, cherry, blackberry. Well structured, but not complex enough for the price point. Drinks like a good $50 bottle.

The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like strawberry, oak, coffee, and chocolate. It tastes like black currant (cassis), lead pencil, lead and cherry. The body is full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. Decanted two hours, this wine's best days are far ahead.

Silver Oak is one of my favorite wines. However, the oak on the 2008 is a bit too strong, as compared to the 2007. In time the fruit and tobacco come forward.

Nose of mocha, dill, dusty earth, and black cherry fruit when immediately opened, dill subsided to only a hint after 15 minutes, more of the same on the palate, easy to enjoy with grilled turkey burgers today, about 3 years to it's peak, mouth filling and tasty fruit, medium/big body, and medium/long finish.

Received this as a gift last year. Found this Cab to be good but not really great. A bit thin on the palate and a somewhat one dimensional, dominated by mostly black pepper with some dark fruit there as well. If I had spent the going rate to purchase this, I would have been disappointed. Amanda liked this more than I did and she rated it 92 - 93.

First, this was not a bad wine. It drank nice, however.... For the price, this was a light Cabernet Sauvignon. Not very complex and drinks more like a $35 bottle. My first Silver Oak, so maybe this was an off vintage for this bottling, but certainly not commanding of the price. Drank along side a Long Shadows Pedestal Merlot ($55) and Chateau D'Aguilhe Bordeaux ($29) and both wines were much more concentrated and complex. Our guests reaffirmed this as a unanimous take.

Garnet color with black cherry, cassis, tobacco, and a bit of dried herb aromas. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with a soft texture, fine-grained tannis and good acidity with black cherry, cassis, and a bit of plum and spice flavors. Lingering sweet finish Blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc & 3% Petit Verdot. Aged in 100% New American Oak Barrels for 24 Months, then 20 Months in Bottle. Very good now, but could use more time.

Tasted at a wine dinner. Dark extremely ripe fruit loaded with vanilla, baking spice and graphite aromas, fruit was jammy and dense on the palate with a tar-like mouth feel. Majorly lacking in backbone. What the hell? Tasted alongside an '05 which was way more balanced. I know some people like that style of Napa wine, but even so there're better bottles for much less.

At the shore with Frank. This bottle was a gift from Amy and Dan, probably should have cellared, too young but couldn't resist. Popped and poured.
Medium maroon/garnet color. nose somewhat muted dark fruits, eucalyptus, would benefit from a decant, opened after about 30 minutes. Palate was dark fruits, dark cherry, vanilla oak, spices, cedar. Tannins are soft and sweet, especially for a wine this young.
Thin bodied, will probably put on weight with bottle age. Good now, but would cellar for a few years.

Dinner with the winemaker. 91+ pts. Liked this better than the 2009 Napa from Silver Oak. Much less oak than the 09'. Nose was a bit muted, but some nice ripe dark fruits came through. This is a good everyday standard napa cabernet, but in the price range I think much much better stuff.

Napa Valley Wine and Food Excursion 2013; 9/30/2013-10/5/2013 (Napa Valley, California): This opaque ruby wine is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. As is the case with all Napa Valley Silver Oak offerings, it was aged for 24 months in 100% new American oak. The nose shows dried currant, chocolate, dill, eucalyptus and allspice aromas. The wine is full-bodied, round and silky-textured on the palate, with big sweet tannnins and seamless alcohol (14.1%). The flavors mirror the nose and gain traction throughout the middle and the lengthy finish. This vintage of Silver Oak's Napa bottling will undoubtedly be a hit with those who enjoy the style. Drink now-2028.

This is probably one of the best bottles of wine I have ever had. Upon opening the nose was filled of cherry and oak.
The initial ounce I poured into my glass was incredibly bold with fruit forward and then the lingering finish of oak. The wine is of dark plum color. I did not recall tannins being an issue for this 2008. Just absolutely amazing. In time, the oak backed off a little bit, which allowed for the berries and tabacco to come through nicely.
Absolutely amazing. Those of you that like very bold wines, and for your palate to just be in a wonderland of different flavors from one sip, this is a must try!

Ordered at a restaurant, largely due to the fact that they had priced it as an Alexander Valley instead of a Napa (so it was a steal). Strong notes of oak, coffee and cigar box right out of the bottle. Dark fruits developed more as the wine opened. But we consumed rapidly, so not much evolution. Medium finish. Tannins are still very present. I would probably hold this right now if it were in my cellar; I think it needs some time to develop. And I would definitely let it breathe for a bit if you do decide to open it now.

Dark crimson color with a full throttle nose of alcohol. But once you get past that there are attractive aromas of dark berries, chocolate liqueur, vanilla and oak. The palate displays a full body and creamy texture on a more fruit forward character compared to recent vintages from this decade. Flavors of dark cherry, mocha, smoky oak form the core. Finishes long, supple, and juicy. Drink now with a 45-minute decant until 2020.

Surprisingly uninteresting. Even after a 4 hour decant flavors never really developed. It remained concentrated and almost bitter on its own. When paired with beef Wellington some fruits notes broke through.

Decanted for 45 minutes before first taste
Cork in excellent condition- wine bleed 1-2 mm
Color- Dark ruby/purple-no sign of oxidization in color
Nose- Red fruit up front, leather, dirt and oak
Palate- True to the nose.

Obnoxiously, offensively overpriced for what's actually inside the bottle.

Lingering sweet finish Blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc & 3% Petit Verdot. Aged in 100% New American Oak Barrels for 24 Months, then 20 Months in Bottle. Thin bodied, will probably put on weight with bottle age. Good now, but would cellar for a few years.

Big wine, great concentration, refreshing acidity and weighty tannin. This wine needs time, but will be great! Very well done!

Tasted at Silver Oak. Lovely rich cabernet nose with lots of mocha chocolate today, intensely perfumey, black cherry fruit, and currents. more of the same on the palate, shows soft, medium amount of tannins when tasted, medium/long finish, lovely cabernet.

A crimson maroon. Shows a softness in the tannins that makes it hard for me to project what this presents in 10-15 years. Quite open and accessible now, with loads of dark berries and violets.Turns toward coffee with time open. Medium long finish.

BLACKCURRANTS, LICORICE, BLACKBERRIES AND CHOCOLATE IN THE NOSE WITH BLACK CHERRIES AND DEEP BERRY RUIT IN THE FLAVOR. NICE COMPLEXITY AND A MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH.

More complex and tasty than the 08 AV, i'd probably give it two more years to reach a peak. Tasted alongside the 03 and 01 which have reached that plateau and are drinking very well.
Silver Oak is not a wine i'd cellar for more than 15 years. For my taste the 01, 05 and 07 are the best vintages

Gift from Silver Oak Tom Laengle and staff. preview of the February 2013 release. Lovely rich cabernet nose with hints of mocha chocolate, intensely perfumey, black cherry fruit, and currents. more of the same on the palate, shows soft, medium amount of tannins when tasted, medium/long finish, lovely cabernet, easy to open, pour in the glass, wait thirty minutes and it's a winner! Thank you Silver Oak, a wonderful wine to taste and enjoy the first day of 2013.

Not as great as the 2004 but that's due to age and cellaring. 2004 is more refined and slightly more toned down. 2008 is a tad too tannic.
