Earthy nose of red stone fruit, potting soil, baking spice, oak, leather and rhubarb, fabulously balanced palate and fruit forward, bursting with luscious ripe red cherry and sweet strawberry, placid notes of cola, mocha and leather, threaded together perfectly with soft, rounded tannins and finishing long with whispers of honey and white pepper. Perfection. Paired wonderfully with Seared Duck Breast, Roasted Vegetables and Whipped Potatoes.

Dark purple almost black, sweet spicy black cherry nose, heavily extracted, does any Pinot Noir deserve 14.5% alcohol? A clumsy brute next to a Burgundy Grand Cru, a Burgundy Premier Cru, an Oregon PN and a German Spätburgunder, even worse than a 2009 KB RRV! A poster child of what a Pinot should not be.

Deep ruby color, big nose of cherries and a hint of alcohol. This wine is delicious! Velvety smooth cherry flavor that finishes for over 30 seconds. No evidence of any heat or overripeness. Drinking beautifully.

Even at age 8 the fruit and flavor profile you expect from Kosta Brown is all there. Everything is well balanced. Took to a dinner party, group favorite, was tremendous with the grilled salmon.

Not what I expected. Light in body and elegant in taste. Archetypical Kosta Browne cherry cola flavors with some complexity, but ultimately more on the simple side. Probably caught at it's peak, but definitely not worth the cost.

Disappointed. At first taste I hoped it was something special. The initial cedar and earthiness was enticing. But …. It quickly subsided and became a distant memory. What was that again? Flaccid, sad and indistinguishable.

Did a vertical tasting with the 08 which was similar but more complex. I like the 08 a bit more than the 09, but both are excellent wines. This wine is garnet colored with slow legs. The nose has dark cherry, and a hint of vanilla. On the palatte dark cherry, stoniness with a hint of barn-yard funk - the 08 had some smokiness as well. The body is full with a soft elegant texture and nice long finish.

Same as my CT notes from last month. I did not decant, as it did not need it at all. Ready to drink on a PnP just fine. My last bottle of the 2009 Gap's. One of the better bottles of KB that I've had lately.
Drink now and over the next year.

A short decant gave way to notes of rich black cherry, raspberry, RC cola, clove, cinnamon, and evergreen. A nice array of tiered flavors, with the berry/fruit notes softening over two hours with air.
Drinking at its apex, if not a little past, with a bit of the energy dissipating throughout consumption. A good example of a KB Gap's that should be drunk over the next year or so, as it is just starting to lose a little of its "Wow" factor at this stage.
Though i decanted, it probably didn't need it. PnP is more advisable. Enjoy now.

For me, this in a good place today. Rich, dark red fruit, cola notes, underlying baking spice notes, some earthy tones and a little bit of white pepper on the longish finish. I like this one at just above cellar temperature, when it gets much warmer than that it starts to taste hot to me. Double decanted for about 1 1/2 hours.

Pw/3 hour decant. Clear, deep dark ruby color. Very powerful nose. Typical KB flavor profile, big body, not too extracted. Another winner from the 09 vintage line up. Excellent juice and in perfect drinking window. Usual KB cola, red fruit, spice w/long finish. Nothing off. $78
BTW-I have noticed a distinct lessoning of ripeness in KB wines lately. The lower extraction in my opinion, makes for a better, cleaner wine. Maybe just this vintage but I'm impressed. We will see if the later vintages follow that trend.

Another Kosta Browne classic. This is an unbelievably smooth, round and delicious Pinot Noir. Silky black cherry is integrated with soft spice and pepper that delivers a finish that lingers in your mouth for a minute. One of the better single vineyard Pinot's I have tasted from Kosta Browne.
Beautiful wine with dusty dark fruit and such a smooth delivery and sustaining, persistent finish it just keeps on giving and giving. Lovely black and blue fruit with a wonderful presence on the palate. Great effort with this great vineyard source.

Tasted at the winery. Some of the wines were recently bottled. Quick notes: less acid than the other wines; cherry and blackberry notes. Good. As this is the largest vineyard they source from, I got the impression from Michael that this wine, out of all the wines, will show up more frequently on restaurant wine lists. It also seems to be made for an early drinking window.
