Decanted 1 hour before drinking. Heavy sediment. 5th time I have had this and the last of my magnums. Brownish red color. This benefitted from some air time and opened up as the night went on. Moderate tannins with a smooth and earthy texture. Notes of leather, berries and forest floor. This has seen better days. Drink now. 87 points.

According to CT this is passed its prime but this is still delivering wonderful nose, taste and finish. Decant 90 minutes to 2 hours, great dark fruit and cherry coming through a solid core of spice, herbs, forest. Standout among CDPs.

WSET Level 2; 8/20/2019-10/15/2019 (Leoness Cellars, Temecula, CA): Have held on to this until the exact right time. Served to my WSET class to compare alongside a 2016 Autard CdP. Educational experience as the Autard was stylistically similar to what I remember this young La Nerthe being.
Pale garnet; tertiary aromas taking hold here - mushroom, spice, dry cherry, bacon fat and smoked sausage. Palate still holds some lively dried strawberry/cherry fruit, meaty, white pepper, absolutely no tannin left and a touch tart. Lingers nicely. Still drank well several hours after opening. Drank from magnum so I would suggest drinking now.

Decanted and served after about 2 hr. Closed at first but opened up nicely after about 30 min more in the glass. Brick red with lighter rim, lovely smooth red and black fruit on the palate, no harchness from the mellow aged tannin. Wish I had another.

A dull chocolate core with dull violet at the rim, lots of sediment; wow (in a good way) great lavender, herbs de Provence, plum, blackberry, tanned leather, fig, warm stone, great balance, concrete dust, purple fruit, surprisingly youthful and delicious.

Length has been fading for a couple years here. Minimal tannins but still a fruit forward nose which makes for a very drinkable wine. Not particularly complex but still a great value.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over several hours.
Garnet color in the glass, slightly dusty looking. Nose started with a little barnyard that eventual blew off followed by scents of tobacco, cherries and wet stones. Flavors of cherries, raspberries and plums. Tart acidity, resolved tannin, medium to full bodied. Drink now. NOTE: blowing sediment at this point.

Brick red colour with a lovely mature nose showing sage, wet soil and sois bois and some bay leaf. Palate shows lots of warm sun ripe dark cherries with soft tannins and a long smooth finish. This is drinking very nicely right now and matches the fillet of lamb with beetroot perfectly!

Gorgeous wine last night. Ready to go, smooth and silky with resolved tannins. Typical flavor profile- sweet earth, garrigue, tobacco. Great finish. Took some time to open completely, but my thinking is that it's ready to go now.

Was very surprised how youthful it tasted in comparison to it's age. Wonderful color, soft, soft tannins, wish I had another one to drink but last of the case purchased many moons ago. The bottle needed filtering, lots of good sediment...just filter and serve...very nice smooth, super...impressed.

The color is garnet, opaque, and there is some slight brick at the edge. The aromas are rhubarb, cherry, sweet spice, earth and garrigue. The tastes are cherries, leaves, dust, and dark spices. The tannins are satin like and the texture is crisp and the finish is long and dry.

This was my last of four bottles and showed better by far than all the rest. Last time was four years ago and the wine was tired but now it was surprisingly revamped. A mature wine for sure, but on the nose there was an ethereal scent of cherries and strawberry jam that one usually expects from Burgundy. Color was dusty garnet, a little hazy. Aromas apart from those mentioned were of maturity, quite complex, earthy, mushroomy and sweet spicy. Palate was very mellow in texture, tannins melted, acidity medium, very flavorful but quite mature yet still with a good finish. Fully mature, I wouldn't keep longer - that's a matter of taste - but a nice wine.

From Magnum. Too young and a bit closed in this format. This wine will clearly be better with more decanting and air time. Classic CDP elements of mostly red fruits, hints of spice and herbs with some nice minerals and a little vanilla Oak as well.

Super La Nerthe d'un millésime supérieur et ça se goûte. Beaucoup plus de fruit et de longueur en bouche que le '99 bu récemment. Des notes de garrigue comme on dit, mais tout en délicatesse avec une petite pointe anisée.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like coffee, light toast and cherry. The body is light/medium. The wine has polished texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has low acidity.

Wine, Browns and my 55th Birthday (My Home): From Magnum. I had one of the first pours and I quite enjoyed it. Nice cherry fruit. Slight funk on the nose. Turned slightly bitter on the finish. Returning to it an hour later, this is clearly corked. Not sure why it took so long to show other than the format. It is not slightly corked, but pretty noticeable. A shame as this was a very pretty wine.

Some age is evident on the color and nose, very soft on the palate, raspberry to plum, earthy mushroom, finishes with some gritty gravel, touch of tin. Tannins are well integrated at this point but still has some acidity. Very good cdp- drink now.

A friend opened this bottle last night, and saved me a glass. Of course, by now it has plenty of air, and he commented how much more open it was today. This is why we save them for 11 years. The fruit has fallen off, but those secondary and tertiary flavors more than make up for the difference. The color was quite brick red, maybe even the color of Georgia clay. The nose was mature with still some roses, but mostly baked red raspberry. So smooth, the tannins and acid have harmonized. There is some light caramel, cinnamon, and licorice with the roasted red raspberry, and cherry pie fruit. Still some spicy black pepper hints. The viscosity feels light as it crosses the lips and tongue, but has plenty of power as it completely coats the mouth all the way through the finish.

Time to drink but you will enjoy the experience. This provided the integration of fruit and velvety tannins that only exists in older wines. Open for 30 mins at least. Had with a nice piece of pork and it matched it very well.

Still is at it's peak. I was a bit surprised when the wine was poured that it still looked and smelled fresh. The "prune juice" color you sometimes get with a wine that has a bit of age was not evident at all. The wine was smooth and had mellowed into a wonderful CdP.

This wine is drinking beautifully. For a CdP, it is surprisingly elegant, soft and feminine. It is not lacking in complexity or depth -- vanilla, raspberries, spices, earth - all well integrated. I'm disappointed that this was my last 2000 La Nerthe.

Initial nose of cherries. Almost Pinot like. Gave it open time and secondaries came through. Certainly vanilla and some good earth shown through. Darker berries also filled in. Beautiful in the mouth. Held up well and the next day it was still singing.

Decanted 90 minutes and consumed over 10 hours. Plan ahead and be patient with this one. Was really muted for the first 4 hours, but gradually started to open up and strut its stuff from hour 5 through hour 10. The resulting integration and complexity was well worth the wait; making me want those early sips back. Likely any scores you see under 92 pts will be a result of rushed consumption and not enough decant, so plan your evening accordingly. Seemed to show best with smaller, 3-4 oz pours swirled with lots of air in a large glass. Drinking at its peek now so drink ‘em if you got ‘em.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about an hour.
Garnet to perhaps dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose is still a little bit subdued with aromas of berries, plums, lavender and a hint of of cherries peeking throughout. Good berry flavors followed by cherries and raspberries. Bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, medium to full bodied. Drink now with some air or continue to hold. I'd hold another year. Seems to be coming around. Best showing to date.

Out of a magnum, opened but not decanted for about 1 hour. Light red color, on the nose some red fruits, clove and a bit of funk. On the palate more red fruits, especially red cherries, mushroom and savory herbs. Have I had that blind I could have easily be fooled thinking this was a Burgundy. Everything is well integrated with still some fine tannins remaining, a medium to long finish with a perfect balance. Excellent wine and a steal at about $50 for the mag a few years ago!

Very complex nose with lavender, kirsch, and sweet fruit of red cherries and raspberries. Obvious syra component with violets, tar and burnt bakelite. Some oaky notes of vanilla and sandalwood. The slender taste dances on light feet with more acids than tannins. Lovely fruitiness, quite low alcohol, and a spicy finish. It's like a mix of equal parts burgundy, côte-rôtie and châteauneuf. Atypical, yet lovely.

Somewhat of a disappointment. Opened and decanted this for 3 hours before drinking. Consumed over a two hour peiod following. Never seemed to open up despite being in a good window for consumption. Color was good, nothing in the nose indicated an issue. Wasn't bad, just expected this to be better.

Nose was rather refined, somewhat complex, with earth, ripe (but not rich) fruit and minerals. This was echoed on the palate. A very feminine style of CdP, which everyone found surprising but very enjoyable. Paired with quail stuffed with boudin in a reduction sauce. The wine cut into the richness of the boudin and was a good accompaniment.

This wine is still drinking fabulously at 10 years of age. The color is still deep red without much sign of ageing. The nose is heavy with blackberries and cedar. The palate bursts out with black fruits and cassis. A great wine that has at least 7-10 years of life left.

Decanted from magnum for 90 minutes. Remains reddish purple with short legs. Black fruit nose and black cherry initial attack, which carries through to a smooth finish of earth and leather. Nicely integrated acid and tannin. Not "wow!," but solid as a food wine. I'm happier with this than I was 15 months ago.

Drinking great, and I have to disagree with some who feel this is in decline. Very silky and rich, with black cherry, olive tapenade, and iron/floral aromatics. Drinks like a structured pinot with fine tannins. I will drink my last bottle over the next couple of years.

3rd time I have had this. Each time from magnum. The last time was almost 4 years ago. Paired this with marinated lamb chops on Easter. Decanted for 2.5 hours. Solid reddish purple without any signs of bricking. A fantastic food wine. Old world in character with notes similar to the first time I had this. It seems to have added some secondary nuances though. Elegant with a round finish. 92 points.

Drank beautifully from the magnum with about 2 hours decanting. At first there was no nose, but with time it really came around with a great dirty side and wonderful fruit. It's medium-bodied and round, but not terrifically lush. It could stand another few years in the bottle, but there's no shame in drinking it now.

Decanted from magnum, two hours. Reddish purple with short legs. Black raspberry and spice in the nose. Smooth raspberry attack which continues across the palate to the moderate slightly earthy finish. Not too much wood or tannin here, and nicely supporting lamb. Drinking well now, but not truly attention-getting and probably overpriced.

This is a nice wine but I was a little disappointed by it because it is not much better than a Cotes-du-Rhone for half the price. The color is a medium red with some fine sediment. The nose was reticent but offered up some red fruit aromas such as raspberry. The palate shows tannins that are integrating nicely with moderate acidity. Raspberry fruit on the finish. Good wine and drinking well but I was expecting more.

Panegyric alert! Oh, sweet pleasure! Light ruby hue, some blueish center reflexions and a brick red rim. On the nose we get a seductively scented sweet cherry fruit, syrah component at its most elegant - like a lighter côte-rôtie. Butterscotch, spices (cinnamon, sandalwood among others), stony minerals with a whiff of sheep fat, subtle grilled, leather and tar aromas. Black olives, sweet liquorice. The fruitiness evolves with red currants and raspberries. What aromas! What elegance! Mouthwatering and almost totally burgundian - the smell is very graphic and completely readable. Throw in some briar and herbs and the picture is complete! Shiver-inducing, the smell alone is fabulous. On the palate the promises are fulfilled: a taste so slender, fresh, pure, long and beautiful that we're moved. You need to go to côte-de-nuits to find its equal. Maybe we'd guessed so in a blindtasting. But finally a syrah perfume brings us back south again. What a brilliant, elegant wine! One of the great experiences of this year.

Very nice bottle of CDP. Flowers and enticing red fruits jump from the glass. Gorgeous fruit on the palate of this medium bodied wine, with that classic CDP texture. Low tannins, a touch of spice. Drank this third in the lineup at a dinner party the other night, from my cellar.
I agree with the other reviewers that this is not a thin wine, but I disagree with a 'syrupy' description. I am consistently impressed at how well the 00 is drinking, and how versatile it is with meals. Admittedly, it was fruity as hell, and had some other nice notes (leather, floral), but it was round enough to adapt to the meal and was the 'pick of the evening' from amongst the bottles served (which included a Stag Leap Chard 97 and a 1987 Tempier Bandol, plus a 99 Romeiu Lacoste Sauternes). The tannins were approachable, and not as forward as some of the other 00 CdP's I own.

Simple nose, not much to it. Definitely missing the traditional barnyard aroma. Somewhat sweet and fruity on opening, retasted the next night and it seemed to have balanced out more, although not much complexity or depth. Finished the bottle off today and it was much better. Doubtful to make my buy list in future years.

Tasted at an off-line featuring Wine Spec's Top Ten wines of 2002. The most interesting wine of the top ten. Reminded somewhat of the ’97 Avignonesi Vino Nobile with candy like flavors and aromas of bubble gum, passion fruit, bananas foster, and brown sugar – with a large dollop of earth tossed in. This wine coated the back sides of your tongue in a fat and juicy, melting syrup kind of way. I liked some of this rather bizarre action (passion fruit, brown sugar, mouthfeel) and disliked other parts (bananas, bubble gum). Adds up to 92P, but a bottle that would be a great addition to anyone’s cellar for conversation purposes alone. It’s like going to the circus.

This wine was decanted for 1 hour prior to serving in Spiegelau Balloon Magnum glasses. Color was a vibrant ruby color that sparkled as it was swirled in the glass. A beautiful full nose of raspberry carried through to the palate followed up by a slightly spicy finish. This was a remarkable wine, well balanced, that scores at least a firm 90 points in my book. Drink now with decanting or cellar for about 5 years. This wine should drink well through 2010.

Out of the cellar this was a bit syrupy, but now that it has come up a few degrees this is drinking a lot more nicely, gaining in intensity with a really nice finish. I'll report more after dinner... With time this gained more of a brooding character on the palate. The nose was still fairly primary and sweet, not terribly complex. The finish remained very intense, gaining in length with time. This was a really nice effort, not quite 90 points though at this young ago. 88-89 pts. Very approachable. I still have a 375ml that I poured off right after opening, so I will be curious to see how that does tomorrow. (+2 days) I opened up the remaining half bottle of the 2000 after letting it sit for 2 days in the cellar. Wow! No longer is this a syrupy fruit bomb. It is brooding, powerful on the palate, explosive finish. Much better wine!

Returning to it an hour later, this is clearly corked. Not sure why it took so long to show other than the format. It is not slightly corked, but pretty noticeable.

Everything is well integrated with still some fine tannins remaining, a medium to long finish with a perfect balance.

The wine cut into the richness of the boudin and was a good accompaniment.

Dark plum in appearance - good nose of dark fruits, spice and smoke. Well balanced on the palate with jammy blackcurrants, strawberry and pepper. Very nice CNDP.

Velvety Chateauneuf. Don't have the animal and pepery side but lots of black fruits (blackberry) and light oak.
Long finish.
Great pairing with mushrooms pie.

Bottle was consumed on 3/25/07 and was perfect. The wine seemed to have aged well compared my memory of the same bottle 2 years ago. Lighter & smoother than most CNP's I have drank.

Black cherry, clove, forest floor, very silky texture. Tasted blind, we thought this was an lush Pinot and it scored 93 points. It is certainly already mature but has no danger of losing fruit in the near term.

Voted 2nd favorite wine of the evening at a tasting I held. Initially this was a bit restrained, but opened up nicely to a medium-bodied Chateauneuf with hints of light berries.

I brought a magnum of this to Las Vegas for the VLV III dinner. Not quite the same as when I last had it but still tasty. Perhaps it was still suffering from travel shock or in need of decanting. Some pepper, lavender and spice notes with good acidity. No brett. Typical rhone character. Moderate tannins with a smooth finish. 90 points.

Decanted for 1 hour. Dark ruby in color. On the nose, kirsch and spice box. On the palate, slightly dusty plums. The finish is somewhat light in intensity, though decently long at 20 seconds. A perfectly enjoyable CdP and nice with food...just not the best QPR.

Had this for the third time tonight. Opened and decanted for 30 minutes before serving in Spiegelau Authentis Balloon Magnum glasses. Notes are consistent with the last tasting. Still holding strong at 90 points.

Tried it in June 2003 at our WS Top 10 Shootout. Decanted for 5 hours. Wonderfully intricate nose. A creamy well rounded wine with notes of carmel, black fruit and spices. Medium to full bodied with a long finish. There was a lot going on in this wine. 92-93 points.

A beautiful full nose of raspberry carried through to the palate, with some earth and leathery notes, followed up by a slightly spicy finish. Well balanced, it scores at least 90 points in my book. I will be on the lookout for a few of these to put away for a few years.

Strawberry, floral, garrigue and pepper nose. Fruity with ripe, medium tannins; long and elegant with a hint of toast on the finish. Very pretty.
