Wednesday, March 20, 2024 - Ridge's 2021 Three Valleys Red is a deep ruby blend of 65% Zinfandel, 26% Petite Sirah, 5% Syrah and 4% Alicante Bouschet, each varietal being fermented on natural yeast then blended and aged for 12 months in American oak barriques (10% new). Offering a nice aromatic package of rhubarb pie, Montmorency cherries, boysenberries, dill and cocoa, it delivers a comparable array of flavors on the medium-to-full-bodied, fresh palate. The American oak flares some vanilla, coconut and eucalyptus, but is complementary rather than overwhelming. Solid in the middle and medium in length on the back end, this is a delicious Zin blend that has lots to offer, especially at this price point. Serially sampled over three hours from a bottle that had been Vinturi-decanted, this showed best after the first 90 minutes in carafe. Drink now-2031.
