Sunday, April 25, 2021 - First bottle from 1/2 a case purchased on release and stored in a cold cellar from then on...

Still deep ruby (almost purple) with no lightening to the rim. A quick swirl revealed some impressive legs on the glass.

The nose started off rather muted and is in fact one of the most examples I have seen from this vintage. With lots of coaxing (20 minutes in the glass) classic Pauillac aromas of black fruit, cassis, lead pencil and even some tobacco started to emerge.

On the palate the wine was still backward with plenty of tannic structure. The fruit is there , but again needs some coaxing to come out.

The finish was medium to medium plus.

Overall this is obviously a well made wine that will last for some time. I was surprised at how backward this is compared to others in this vintage. One bottle does not make a wine, so will need to try another one to form a definitive opinion.

4/26/2021 6:52:00 PM - Thanks for your note. I found my last bottle relatively open for business, but that was December 2019. I decanted about 3 hours, and it was showing well: not too young and energetic, but with secondary notes peaking out from behind the supple and ample primary fruit. I know that sounds cheesy, but my handwritten note says “sexy.” I will be curious to hear how your next bottle strikes you. Hopefully these are not shutting down!
