Saturday, April 11, 2020 - Purchased around 07...in my cellar since. Interested to see if a 20 year old Chardonnay from Oz would still have anything left. PnP, we drank over 90 minutes.
Brassy gold color. Nose showing baked apple, yeast/brioche, after sitting in the glass could get a bit of creme brulee. If smelling blind I might have guessed an aged white from the Rhone. Palate shows marinated orchard fruits, lemon curd, quince, yellow liqueur/blond Lillet(?), some battonage. Secondary notes hard to describe, something there. Finish was layered and lingered for a while.
Flavors and descriptors to be put in the context of the wine's age. Had a lot going on, interesting for fans of old and unique wines. Its in a tertiary phase at this point. Nice to see this bottle made it this far, prior bottle was flawed
