Medium ruby, pleasant aroma of violets, blueberries, black cherries, cranberries, black pepper, sweet spices, vanilla, and cream. This wine is sweet in the mouth, the body is bright, with balanced acidity and elegant tannins, nice aftertaste.

Dark fruits, oak and spices. very intense flavours, with some tobacco and smoky note. high concentration, high heat, solid acidity supported. a muscular and broad structure. full body, chewy tannins, a little bitter. long finish with cocoa and coffee beans. too young to judge, but promising potentials for sure.

Dark purple colour starting to fade on rim, plummy taste with spice, not overtly aromatic, and not worth the price despite being a decent bottle.

Vinolok, 9.5% alc. Darkening god colour; starting to show its age.

A mellowed nose of toast, honey, lime, peach, green herbs, kerosene, and flint notes. A hint of sherried oxidation in the background.

On the palate the wine still retains good acidity and is showing more phenolic grip than I recall from previous bottles. Both fruit and RS have faded, leaving mostly bruised lime and kero notes. Average length.

Past its best, and likely to look more and more like and an aged dry Eden Riesling from here.

2006 Spinifex Indigène

Barossa Valley Red Rhone Blend more

5/2/2022 - mphatic Does not like this wine: NR

Diam, 14.8% alc. 69% Shiraz, 31% Mataro. Dark ruby.

Blackberry jam, smoked meats, pan juices, dark cherry, and oak hovering in the background. A little porty with some alcohol showing on the nose. Menthol.

Rather dense and dark fruited on the palate, lacking some freshness, with soft tannins. There is an Amarone-like vibe here. Sour fruited, and slightly bitter back palate and finish, accentuated by wood.

Hard work, and not terribly enjoyable. Still youthful in some respects but again I’m not convinced that this will improve with age.

From the very moment that screwtop pops, beautiful Riesling aromas come wafting up – juicy lime and lemon, kerosene undertones, and a bit of creamy almond. Bright bright acidity, like fresh lime juice, and some associated citrus notes, key lime wedges and Sprite, albeit without much of a finish, just a citric attack. Precise and linear. Just what I want on a night when I’m cooking seafood.

2016 Torbreck Woodcutter's Semillon

Barossa Valley Sémillon more

5/19/2024 - Pontifax Likes this wine: 94 points

Very different style from Tyrell's Vat1 Semillon....
On nose: toasted brioche, vanilla/ oak, and ripe canteloupe melon.
On palate: all above flavours firing in unison....in addition to notes of white pepper, Seville orange rind, roasted almonds, and a note of barley sugar....all displayed on an elegant , fullish body, with present but restrained acidity.
After a 1 hour decant, the balance and freshness of this 8 year old wine , is a pleasing accompaniment to herbed roast chicken, roast potatoes and braised cabbage/ carrot medley....good value at $27.00 in Vancouver...my wine merchant has 3 more bottles....but he will no longer have them tomorrow!😎

Was curious to try when our guests announced to bring this sparkling wine to our place for dinner. Unlike a blanc de noir Champagne this tastes just like you would imagine the combination of new world Shiraz with bubbles to show. The underlying Shiraz is quite nice and not overdone in terms of ripeness or oak but still i struggle a bit to think of an occasion I would want to open this. It certainly does not have the freshness and versatility of Champagne when it comes to pairing with a range of appetizers, hence I guess more of a stand-alone drink. An acquired taste for sure. NR

2013 Torbreck The Factor

Barossa Valley Shiraz, Syrah more

5/18/2024 - Brent25 Likes this wine: 93 points

Clear deep ruby/garnet with big staining legs; clean medium plus nose of plum jam, blueberry compote, cassis, balsamic and leather; dry; high acidity; medium tannins; high alcohol; full body; pronounced flavour intensity; palate has fruit payoff with addition of cocoa, figs and dates; long finish; drink now or in 5 years; comfortably in its drinking window; sadly, this was my last bottle - if I had another bottle I’d wait another 2 years for further development; concentrated and inky with a seductive, velvety mouthfeel; a little hot but easy enough to overlook given the delicious tertiary; best with dry aged beef to complement the wine’s complexity

Intense, dark black center, bronze rim. Macerated raisin nose. Smooth and sweet, raisins, PX, good acidity still, alcohol is well integrated (18%), fantastic finish (goes on for a minute plus).
Wonderful fortified Tokay, drinking very well at 20 years of age.

Deep red colour. Bouquet dominated by floral tones - almost like that of a lily, and some damp earth. Flavour dominated with licorice and dark chocolate, and some green pepper and mushroom. Hint of purple fruit at the end. Body is fuller and flavours round out nicely. Moderately long finish.

It was drunk over two nights with the 2nd half of the bottle finished after a solid 36hr decant. Decent without being ground breaking. The texture and palate not as bright as other bottlings and there was a more herbal aspect on the nose. Alcohol also a touch noticeable.
