Santa Ynez Valley more

Wonderful wine. Let breath for 2 hours prior. Lush cherry fruit with tight tannins but not overbearing, long finish and just a great producer.
Had on New Years Eve with fresh homemade pasta = perfect combo.

Opened it up and let it breathe thru the bottle for 4 hours. The nose was very muted and was devoid of detecting much. Wine did not show much as it expressed pencil lead, tobacco, cola & very soft tannins and not much in the way of fruit. Wasnt impressed, had a bottle of Stolpman before which was far superior than this. Have another bottle, may not let it open as long next time to see if that will produce more complexity.

Great QPR Pinot. Difficult to find a decent pinot in this price range. Great for everyday drinking, big lush masculine pinot upon opening then fruit does disappear after an hour or or.
Most pinots in this price range are thin, devoid of any fruit and just too acidic. This was "nice for the price" and would have no issue serving this to guests.

This wine just plain sucks for $25! Thin and extremely soft, would have thought of a new zealand pinot if tasted blind. Short finish, nose was medicinal. Junk!

2008 d'Arenberg Shiraz The Stump Jump

McLaren Vale more

9/13/2010 - ijayb wrote: 85 points

Popped and poured. Immediately was very big with a huge mouthfeel. After 30 minutes the wine calms down and you realize its simply just fruit up front initially then is very short. Gets thin at the end and with no structure. Decent for price but really not interesting. Dont think will purchase again.

Ehh, its ok. Soft and lighter style pinot with not much going on. Not much fruit on the palate, taste of cherries that lost its luster. Not much acidity and quick finish.

tasting from last night, trying to recall. Popped and poured which this wine needs a little time to open up. Very old world style, more earth and terroir notes and a softer style wine. Flavors of figs, soft tannins and elegant. Nice wine, suggest serve with food rather than on its own.

Doesnt taste much like a syrah but rather big pinot. Tart cherries, lots of acidity, firm tannins. Not balanced at all.
This needs time an hour to open, popped and poured and was difficult to drink immediately.

Nice bottle of Chard, got at a good price under $20 and worth it. Beautiful golden color, buttery, floral with some oak on the palate. Enjoyed this wine, needs food in particular fish with buerre blanc or of course lobster. Would work well with cream based pasta as the wine can get a bit heavy.

This is crap. Absolutely no characteristics of of California Zin. Light crimson in color, nose almost non existent.
Taste- extremely bitter, sharp tannins and no fruit on the palate. Yes, I know its only $12-$15 range, but you can find a hell of a lot better Zins for this everyday price point.

Very feminine pinot with not a lot of fruit expression. Taste of strawberries predominate the palate but are very subtle. Easy drinking wine, nice for summer. Decent bottle considering only paid $ 17.00 for it.
Not special but would be pleasant to serve at a party without breaking the bank.

2005 Kaleidos Morpheus

Paso Robles Syrah Blend, Syrah more

5/17/2010 - ijayb wrote: 82 points

Opened and let breathe for over an hour, tasted hot and alcohol was predominant and difficult to drink on its own. Almost like drinking a cigar. Therefore, left it alone to come back to it the next day.
Still after 24 hours it was huge and the alcohol overwhelmed (15.9%) the fruit and not balanced in the least. Tastes of cedar, blackberries and just too much alcohol on the palate makes this wine not enjoyable.
Not worth $ 30 price tag but maybe 1/3 of that.
