2007 Penfolds GrangeSouth Australia Shiraz Blend, Syrah more |
5/25/2024 - Jimmy_D wrote: 90 pointsIt’s all prunes and raisin. Enamoured in the usual oak treatment. A bit clunky. Drank over 2-3 hours with a quick initial decant. It didn’t let down much over that time. Was really hard going after the second glass. |

2021 Clonakilla Shiraz ViognierCanberra District Shiraz Blend, Syrah more |
5/25/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 92 pointsSome good commentary on this. I’m with DrS on the current state and future potential. The nose was a bit funky on this bottle but it was super silky on the palate. It’s open for business in any case. Worth checking in early if you’ve got a few racked up. |

2020 Brokenwood Pinot Noir Tasmaniamore |
5/25/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 91 pointsSurprisingly very good. This was the product of smoke taint taking out the usual beechwood source. It’s a delicately put together tassie PN. Lively and bright red fruits, a touch of cherry but further down the spectrum of red currant and strawberry. Caught me offguard and for the better. |

2009 Tyrrell's Sémillon Vat 1Hunter Valley more |
5/19/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 94 points#Semsational drinking right now. It’s in the perfect window for mine. Oyster shell, lanolin, waxy, brioche, lemon curd. Name all of the typical aged semillon characteristics and it’s showing up here. So very, very good. |

2018 Yarra Yering Dry Red N°1Yarra Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/19/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 93 pointsA good showing, considering. This came from a friends collection with sub-par storage, so explains why it felt more developed than it should be at this point. No major issues or faults though. Clearly cabenet dominant but with the supporting varieties adding mid palate weight. |

2023 Chatto Wines Pinot Noir BirdPipers River more |
5/18/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 92 pointsFirst of the new Bird vintage out of northern Tassie. And this continues the excellent streak. Has both depth and length. Sure it’s good now, but park these for at least 3-4 years. |

2017 Giant Steps Pinot NoirYarra Valley more |
5/3/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 94 pointsMy last of 6 and this is only just getting going. So very good. Elegant and long. Squishy purple berries. Stupidly great QPR. Should have picked up more on release. |

2021 Frankland Estate Riesling Isolation Ridge VineyardFrankland River more |
4/28/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 93 pointsVery nice. The nose promises up a heap of texture and weight and the palate delivers. Obviously very early days, but the hype is real on the ‘21 isolation ridge. Dip into one early if you’re holding back. |

2011 Yarra Yering Dry Red N°2Yarra Valley Shiraz Blend, Syrah more |
4/27/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 89 pointsPreviously bottle was several years ago and this is my last. Still a bit funky. The marsanne and viognier have the most impact on the nose. It has a soft and elegant body, without too much influence of the white varieties. Showed better next to food, though did seem to fall over after a few hours open. I’d drink these up soon. |

2022 Andrew Thomas Wines Sémillon Fordwich HillHunter Valley more |
4/24/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 89 pointsMy wife guessed riesling blind. Which I thought was fair. There’s a slight petro hint on the nose and a bit of fleshiness about it. I quite like the profile of this. Approachable young. |

2014 Tyrrell's Shiraz Johnno'sHunter Valley more |
4/7/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis is in a lovely place at 10 years of age. And still has its best years ahead of it. I really enjoy the earthier, leaner style of Johnno’s and in the bigger vintage that ‘14 was, this is the pick of the Tyrrell’s red range for me. Still plenty of primary red berried fruits here, fine tannins wrap together a very elegant wine. |

2022 Pooley Pinot NoirTasmania more |
4/6/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 90 pointsI somehow missed tasting this at the CD on our last trip to Hobart. I’m with Graeme on this being a rung under the single vineyards, but it’s still decent value at the sub-$50 member rate. This is a little tight right now but definitely approachable as a youngster. Better in another 3 or 4 |

2011 Andrew Thomas Wines Shiraz Elenay Barrel SelectionHunter Valley more |
3/30/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 91 pointsIn a good place now. It’s super polished. Very clean profile of blackberries, plum and a long creamy finish. Dark and rich but not sweet. My last bottle and this feels at peak. |

2014 Silkman Wines Sémillon Blackberry VineyardPokolbin more |
3/28/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 93 pointsRestaurant bottle. Pop and pour. The nose gives away its age. It’s got a lovely creamy body about it. The citrus edge has worn off and toasty, brioche tertiary profile has come forward. In a nice spot now. |

2019 Mount Pleasant Wines Tempranillo Touriga Creek BlockHunter Valley more |
2/18/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 90 pointsLast of 3 bottles and a very handy blend of Spanish and Portuguese varietals. Early and easy drinking vibes here. Bright fruits at the fore. Cherries and some hunter plumminess sitting in the background. That being the only thing giving away the source of this, and you’d need to be looking for it. A hint of bubblegum too. Seems really good value at low $20s member rate. |

2/10/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 89 pointsRestaurant by the glass. Was a surprise packet. I didn’t clock the RS on the bottle, but wasn’t as far down the sweet spectrum as expected. Lemon, touch of grapefruit and sherbet. Good way to kick off a night out. |

2019 Eden Road MalbecCanberra District more |
1/21/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is a banger. Lovely nose of blackcurrant, blueberry, pepper and wet stones (I hate that descriptor, but there you go!). The same fruit and slatey vibes translate across the palate. The 10% Shiraz adds the slightest peppery bite in what sits nicely in front of fine timber. The tannins very fine and tending to slinky. This stood out at the CD many moons ago, would buy again. |

2021 Weingut Knoll Riesling Smaragd LoibenbergWachau more |
1/4/2024 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 94 pointsRestaurant bottle. This is a cracker. So well balanced and has a lovely mineral texture. Only a touch of RS to what is otherwise dry and long. There is tension in this which is super appealing. Need to try again and with a few years development on it. |

2019 Müller-Catoir Riesling HaardtPfalz more |
12/31/2023 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 89 pointsFairly clean and easy going Pfalz. Seems an ok entry level drop. Crowd pleasing in style. The only question being QPR because of it. |

2021 Mount Majura Tempranillo Dry SpurCanberra District more |
12/31/2023 - Jimmy_D Likes this wine: 93 pointsObviously still really young but showing all the potential of this unique site and varietal combination. Dark fruits ahead of subtle oak toastiness. Good length and clear potential for the future. |

2013 Lake's Folly CabernetsHunter Valley Red Blend more |
12/29/2023 - Jimmy_D wrote: 90 pointsNo cork issues like the last bottle. The nose is classic folly. But it’s a bit lean to taste, albeit the profile is also pretty classic. Still enjoyable, but missing some of the usual depth and complexity of good vintages. Will give the last 2x bottles another 4-5 and see if it puts on some weight. |
