Garagiste purchase. Slow ox for 30min and consumed over the following 4hrs. Somewhat muted nose. Some floral and non specific fruity notes, palate of black current, tobacco, blueberry. Acid medium, tannins medium. Medium finish. Still has gas left in the tank - would drink over the next 10 years

2007 Tenuta le Potazzine Brunello di Montalcino

Purchased at the winery in 2012. Slow ox for 90 min and consumed over 4hrs. Nose of balsamic, stewed plum, cherry and red liquorice. Lots of secondary and some tertiary notes on the palate - leather, spices, raisin, ripe red plum. Medium tannin, medium acidity. Unlike other notes i wouldn’t say this is overly advanced compared to other 2007 brunello. Just reflects a hot vintage that probably isn’t built for the long haul. For me this is probably at peak and I would drink any remaining bottles over the next 5 years.

very pronounced black licorice on the nose. dark and brooding, very little sign of age. acidity is medium, tannins are medium, palate of black current, dark cherry with little in the way of any secondary or tertiary notes. finish is medium. Very good drink, but a little uninteresting at this stage. Drink or hold.

A bit of puzzle to me. Was curious to try given the recent mixed reviews. ? shut down vs past peak ?

Slow ox for 1hr and consumed over the following 8hrs. I'll agree it seems older than it should be - especially given the vintage. Initially open for business on the nose, but closed on the palate. After 1-2hrs opened up nicely and paired with New York Steak. At 3hrs it was singing and everything was in check. Held it's own for the following 7hrs, but did seem to fall off somewhat after about the 4hr mark.

I have half a case remaining... will probably consume 3 in the near future and hold 3 longer term and see what happens.

Really solid brunello. Popped and pour and consumed over 4hrs.
Doesn't show it's age at all. Great structure and drinking very well now, but I think the best is yet to come. 2nd of 4 bottles, will hold my remaining 2 bottles for some time before trying again.

Initially quite reticent upon opening, but settled in nicely after decanting 3-4hrs. Very structured, old school claret, probably just entering a long drinking window. No harm in popping a bottle now if you have a few, but I feel like it's best days are still to come.

quite solid and will last another 5-10 years i imagine. distinct nose of black licorice - a first for me with nebbiolo. acidity, fruit, tannins all in check and well balanced. paired well with braised short rib and matsutake mushroom. great QPR

My first experience with Galardi and this varietal. I thought it was really nice, definitely on the rustic side, but I didn't get the feeling it was over the hill. I agree the tannins were much less than I was expecting, but thats not to say they were absent or the wine was unstructured. Drink now or over the next 10 years I would say.

I realize this is a controversial wine with the comparisons to DRC and La Tache. I will try to keep this as objective as possible. I'll start with saying that I've never tasted any wine by DRC, and am probably unlikely to ever do so. So I cannot comment on any comparison to DRC or La Tache.

But I do drink a lot of wine....

I'm also not one for long winded cellar tracker notes, but this warrants an exception.

I served this to my wife blind. She said "It's really really good; I cannot find any fault in this wine." So there you go.

Decanted for 30min and then consumed over the following 3hrs with dinner - rack of lamb. Also drinks very well on its own.

Absolutely enchanting nose. Perhaps the best I've had so far in my life. People talk about "forest floor" in a wine and now I understand what they mean. Brilliant nose, complex.. and yes...forest floor, mushroom, but also somewhat floral. Not rose petals, but it smells like my wife's flower garden. It's stunning.

Palate: Cherry, mild vanilla, slight white pepper, cinnamon, hints of leather and tobacco. Everything seems in balance. Oak is in check, vanilla is present but only in a very mild and unobtrusive way.

Finish: 45-60 seconds, acidity and tannins seem perfectly in check.

This is my 1st of 3 bottles. Although this wine held up well over 3hrs I do feel as though it is probably at or near peak and I'm not sure how much there is to be gained by further cellaring. I will probably consume one bottle in the near future and hold my last one for 3-5 years.

Would be very curious to know what others think....
