2014 Cristom Pinot Noir Mt. Jefferson CuvéeEola - Amity Hills more |
4/30/2024 - JohnMcIlwain Likes this wine: NRSo, from all estimations this is the middle of the pack for the Cristom wines, though you’d be hard pressed to say that based to this bottle. Fine color and excellent cork (on a WineBid bottle, no less!). Pale ruby robe with a bit of bricking on the meniscus. The nose offers a few artifacts of elévage and an array of red fruits, crushed (woody) herbs, baking spice, and balsam. The palate is well on the path to resolved, but with fine energy offsetting mature, burnished notes. Plenty of cherry and red plum flavors with enough juicy acidity and ripe tannins to accompany a pan roasted rose veal chop with polenta and a shiitake pan sauce. Fine cut and long expansive finish here. Sensational retro-nasal persistence here—plenty of that peacock’s tail. I like this a bunch. Real flair with all the earthiness. If I can find some bottles, absolutely a buyer. Yum! |

My one bottle of Hirschy vineyard was seeping through the capsule by 2019 when I opened it. It tasted flat - not awful, but definitely “off” with a short finish lacking in fruit. When I opened this bottle of Jessie tonight, the cork spun in the neck of the bottle on the corkscrew before coming out, and was soaked 3/4 of the way up. It too tasted flat. A shame. I have not experienced this with any other vintages of any Cristom wines, and also have opened many excellent 2015s from them. I remain a fan. |

4/14/2024 - JM_MadTown Likes this wine: 92 pointsNice spice box, cherries, raspberries and balanced acidity for this wine. Had it last evening and it was quite enjoyable. I do agree that the fruit is on the leaner side, but that is just an observation, not a compliant. |

4/8/2024 - VAGenius Likes this wine: 91 pointsNose of cherry and red licorice with notes of violets and pickled ramps. Dark red cherry palate with loads of stones and some dusty notes, stretching out with vine stems and baking spices. Smooth medium-weight tannins take up the spice, adding cranberry and acidity with a lingering neutral oak note. |

4/13/2024 - North Willis Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis is a full-bodied, Oregon Pinot that offers tremendous depth of fruit and brambly spice notes. Served PnP, the wine kept getting better the longer it was open. My last bottle was nearly two years ago, and time has treated this very nicely. It should continue to improve over the next 3+years and will drink well for another 7-10. One of my favorite OR Pinot Noirs. |

Tart cherry, black cherry cola, basil, raspberry licorice. Not an overbearing amount of black pepper on the finish, but just enough to make it the great pairing with dark chocolate that has been baked with herbs de Provence almonds. I have had a couple of Pinot from Cristom in the past, and none of them have been remotely as enjoyable compared to this one. Enjoyed from a 375, I think this one already had integrated a little bit and was really quite ready to go out of the gate. |

3/20/2024 - Vinnut Likes this wine: 91 pointsMedium ruby red in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & blueberries with overtones of spices & floral notes, earthy/dusty, minerals & a slight touch of oak/vanilla in the background. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of red cherries, strawberries & blueberries with spices, earthiness, minerals & a touch of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present although it should develop further with additional aging. |
