2012 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Sodini Vineyard

Russian River Valley more

This one had nice zin perfume with brambly red berries and spice following through to the palate. At this stage though, the acidity was quite high and seemed out-of-balance. This one is likely set up well for longevity but needs a few years to meld.

Really enjoyed this one. Color was an eye-catching light neon pink. The nose was expressive with grapefruit and tart red fruits. Watermelon and tart strawberries were prominent on the palate, and were complemented by a citrus/citrus rind finish. Acidity was crisp but integrated well. Overall, just a nicely balanced, refreshing rosé without any confectionary notes. Very lovely.

Drank over two days. Great nose with a mix of spicy and forest. Still very stem-y to taste and I find a bit disjointed. There's an underlying red fruit backbone that still struggles to break through. I'm going to leave remaining bottles sit for a bit and see if this resolves with more time.

2013 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Evangelho Vineyard

Contra Costa County Zinfandel Blend, Zinfandel more

Last Bedrock Evangelho I had was the '11, and this one was a complete departure in style. This wine had none of the wonderful crunchy red berries and lively acidity of the '11. Instead, the '13 had low acidity with dark red fruits that were flat, muddled and a bit roasted. Two very different vintages of course but still underwhelmed by this wine based on its own merits.

6/13/2016 9:50:00 AM - Thanks @BedrockMorgan for your comments on the wine and offer. Given others’ comments on perception of low acidity, I’m inclined to think this one just isn’t my cup of tea. I look forward to opening another Bedrock soon though as I normally enjoy your wines very much. Cheers.

Really lovely mix of red fruits – strawberry, raspberry and cranberry – rounded out with minerals, stems and pithy acidity. Given the good structure and plentiful fruit, seems like this is one that could make old bones. But, doubt I’ll be able to keep my hands off my remaining bottles to find out.

Yakima Valley Red Bordeaux Blend more

The pleasures a wine like this one offers are easy to miss, especially if not following in the glass for hours. The red currant, olive and plum on the nose were elegant; the waves of cherry, cocoa and blackberry on the palate were so integrated and subtle and showed their best with a pairing of pork chops stuffed with wild rice. Tannins were there and the acidity very present, though the mouthfeel was still soft – perhaps due to the merlot dominance in this enjoyable blend. 42% merlot, 30% cabernet sauvignon, 19% cabernet franc, 9% malbec.

4/7/2013 9:27:00 AM - I do think there’s upside potential here. My initial post didn't capture it, but there was some noticeable oak spice on the nose, so giving this more rest (1-2 years?) may help integrate the oak further.

2004 Pago de los Capellanes Ribera del Duero Crianza

Tempranillo more

This was a modern-styled tempranillo. Big initial notes of tobacco and dark berries were inviting on day 1. On day 2, the flavors disintegrated into prunes, raisins and grapey flavors. Tannins were huge and indicated more time in bottle was likely needed.
