1/6/2022 - Jay Hack Likes this wine: 92 pointsForgive me, for I have sinned. I killed an infant today. KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF FOR AT LEAST FIVE YEARS! MAYBE 10. Decanted at about 6:30 and followed for about 4-1/2 hours. At first, the wood treatment was too strong, although the other flavors held a Forman versus Lyle knock down drag out punch fest to see who was stronger. At first, the oak was winning, with basic wood flavors, coffee and chocolate. After a while, the fruit took the lead and the nose developed a floral component with a tiny whiff of what they add for aroma in fancy nail polish - but no petro-chemical overtones. There is spice component, still fierce tannins, and I think the acid level is a bit above average. I have asked Will for a tech sheet and will report back. |

I had poured an ounce to monitor at the beginning of the process and after hour 3, the aromatics were that of an elite Napa wine. There is something there, but time is needed.

6/23/2017 - Mark1npt Likes this wine: 94 pointsSupposedly the weakest link in Mike Smith's stable of cabs. Hardly. The darkest of ruby red in the glass, beautiful cab nose, fruit very up front, a full mouth feel with plenty of ripe black/blue fruit, luscious tannins with cedar blending in beautifully. Nice moderate acid finish with no sharp edges but a fair amount of chewiness to the end with those sweet tannins. A shame I couldn't wait a few more years, it probably would have been even better.

12/8/2016 - Barolo Raymond wrote: 89 pointsMedium ruby, slow moving legs @14.8% abv. Dark fruit, smoked wood, tobacco on the nose. Dry-off dry, medium acidity, low-medium(-) tannin, high alcohol, medium(+) body. Medium palate of black ripe fruits, baked prunes, white pepper and vanilla notes. Pluche texture, some residual alcohol heat, balanced. Very quaffable libation with lingering bittersweet finish. Great QPR - definitely.

12/31/2016 - bestdamncab Likes this wine: 95 pointsFleming's New Year's Eve Dinner, my last bottle, nose of watermelon, musk melon, honey, mango and a touch of sage, same on the palate, big body, elegant tasting, mouth filling fruit, at it's peak, time to drink up, favorable comments from everyone, long, long finish and flavorful aftertaste. Great pairing with the Crab Cakes.

1/14/2011 - Alex H wrote: 85 pointsV sharp floral notes. Lifted cherries and some brambles come thru which made me think an igt blend of Cabernet n Sangiovese. Bright and polished on the palate. Felt like a mix of French and American oak. This I gotta say is extremely elegant for a napa cab. Very classically made with balance and control worthy of a Bordeaux. One of the most controlled napa cabs I hv tasted and being relatively youthful too.
